It was time to change form again. The 42-year old body he was inhabiting would no longer do and he knew it was well past the time for metamorphosis
again. He had been waiting for quite some time and now the opportunity had finally presented itself.
The boy sitting next to him in church would be his next manifestation. The boy and his sister were sitting with their mother in between them. The
father was not present in the house of worship today. The Changer had met the family before; they had exchanged polite after-service conversation on
many occasions.
From these conversations, he had learned the boy's name was Peter and he was between 2 and 3 years old - the perfect age for the change he thought.
He also knew this was a well-to-do family and a family filled with love. It was going to be a perfect union for him.
The Changer glanced at Sarah; his wife of 10 years; sitting on the other side of him. She had never wanted children and had gone out of her way not
to conceive. Had she been more willing to do so, the transition would have been more straightforward, as he could grow with people he knew.
He will have to remember this for the next generation of himself – to choose a wife who wants children! Since the beginning of time he had been
living in various bodies, only one other woman had failed him in this way. In her case, it had not been her fault. Next time, he will have to begin a
family much earlier. At 42, this was one of the oldest bodies he had ever inhabited.
Although this was his only way to experience eternal existence, he still felt isolated and naked with emotion every single time. He was always alone.
With every new transition he always felt like being alone in a strange place.
Now, it was time.
The boy, Peter was fidgeting as young children often do in places like this. He began sliding down the pew and onto the floor. Peter was at that age
where, just learning to walk, he was anxious to walk everywhere. He began to move down the pew in front of the Changer.
The Changer, sensing anxiety from the mum, put his arm out to stop the boy from going any further. The mum smiled at the Changer and reached out to
pull Peter back in.
Only it was no longer Peter, the child. The Changer had done this so many times that all he needed was a slight touch, an ever so brief physical
contact to make his exchange. The mother now lifted him back up on the pew and whispered to him "Sweetie, the sermon is almost over, be a good boy
and sit still for a little while longer".
Indeed, the minister was just then wrapping up the service. As everyone started getting up to leave, one man stayed put. It was the body of the man
the Changer had previously inhabited. Peter turned around for one last look at the body he had spent the past 39 or so years in. It was seated still,
staring vacantly ahead while Jenny, the childless wife, was trying to shake him and get him to come around.
Peter giggled a little boy's laugh and walked out with his new mum's hand in his. "What's so funny Peter," she asked and smiled a loving smile at
him. “Nothing Mummy” I said.
I then began to think how I’ve had many names during my lives, but…
“I’ll always be known as LUCIFER”.

Good. Well written. An unexpected interpretation of the topic "alone in a strange place". Inspires me to think about walk-ins, "changers",
shifters, possesion, where the soul of young Peter went, what would happen if the changer were not to incarnate into another body, and so on.

Intriguing story with an interesting twist.

Interesting that Lucifer would choose to hang out in a church, unless the woman took her kids to worship Satan? Spooky!!
Well done.
BTW Children usually start to walk at around 11/13 months, by 2 years they can reach warp factor 6, but only in a shop when you are trying to catch
them.

Regarding your post, my husband said the same thing however, i pointed out to him that the title "Lucifer" is a pre-fall from grace reference
otherwise I would have used the term "Satan".
The attitude of Lucifer in my belief is a reference to pride and selfishness (as mentioned in the story when he didn't consider his current wife),
yet not rebellious in nature.
Thankyou for taking time out to read it anyway...

I love your story. Really awesome.
About the Lucifer/Satan thing I have always been under the impression that Lucifer, being a fallen minion of God was forced to spend an eternity in
Hell, which did not exist until the Light Bearers failed takeover of Heaven.
The fact he is residing on Earth possible indicates that Hell is in fact Earth.
Or maybe Hell is in fact purgatory which is his existence of bouncing eternally between bodies without the option to ever returning to the
afterlife.
Thank you for provoking my brain.

LordApathy, thats a good point... she likes provoking minds! (She allowed me to cook recently, that really made me scratch my head)
I like the idea that you may have thought Earth was actually Hell, interesting concept, as I remember bible studies stating that 'hell' is a place
where you are not with 'God' (The king who needed a taste of water, calling to heaven whilst in hell?), forever separated - and it sure does feel
that way living here....
Thx

Of course if Lucifer is the pre fallen incarnation then he is still doing God's bidding...hmm.
That's it I'm gonna write my story in the morning. Is there a deadline for this comp?

I think Paulene-abeth mentioned the Pride and Selfishness aspect of Lucifer - so even doing Gods Bidding, its a sign of 'about to fall'. The hell
aspect is a good interpretation of it though
Maybe...and I mean maybe... "going to church" was part of "heaven" before the fall, and earth is the level between heaven and hell - trying to
have eternal life in the process, maybe Paulene-abeth should write a sequal, something with another twist, and symbolism to the transfer of Lucifer to
Satan - in the same style she has written in her story.
I keep visualising Damien from Omen when I read the last paragraph I wrote...
Thx

eerie in a sense to think the Changer would do a transition in a church. Just shows how conniving he can really be. It wouldn't of been beyond him
to do a transition into one of his own children either, if he had any.
Maybe Sarah sensed it and that's why she never wanted children. Your story really made me think Paulene. Hope I'm not too off base. It was well
written & extremely interesting. Thank-you.
