No word or character count. Stories breathe. You never know what it will take to get where the story will take you.

Check that post.

I just completed my story after a few days writing. I would like to say (and I mentioned in the thread) that its a true story, all the events mentioned were true, and even more revealing but too much of a personal nature so I didn't write about it.

(AIASP) Dreamtime Healing - A True Story

Thx

I have strike teams in the field now. Infiltrators are on site. Intell is coming online and we should have target confirmation...I mean story...within two weeks.

I know you mentioned our story can take up multiple posts, but is there a limit?

I'll need a few more days to compile something halfway decent anyway...

Well, he said there are no limits. On the other hand, its a short story contest, and probably more likely to get a lot of reads if its not too long.

Can the story involve other people, while the main character acts without any direct contact with them? I expect so, but want to clarify that a "marooned" story line is acceptable.

EDIT to add another question: Or how about stranded among people of a different language and culture?

jackinthebox's quote,

I hope so jackinthebox or I'm doomed.

I can only critique food.

As far as writing goes, I can only say wether or not I like it, not why. So it wouldn't be fair to critique someone elses hard work since I am no expert.

But good luck anyhoo!

That's ok jackinthebox.
I see now that *Sir Intrepid* stated

No word or character count

I thought I had too many characters running around.

I think I'm gonna toss a story or two into the mix this time. I'm in need of some practice anyway, its been a while since I've written something decent.

Good luck to all.

Sorry Iv'e been so busy, but I will promise to get the reading of the entries done by weekend. I generally reserve my flags until the very last minute, but then this time its going to look like a flag fest from what I have already read.

3 days folks. 11:59 PM Friday and it's closed.

Just a heads up.

Gonna be a tough one too, intrepid.

Sharpen your minds and tap those keyboards, because the quality of the entries so far is nothing short of amazing.

ATS has a very talented membership. Go figure, since y'all plink away on posts half the day, getting better and better all the time.

I cried, I laughed and I shuddered in horror... so keep 'em coming, troopers.

If these questions have been answered, forgive me for asking.
1. When is the deadline to get the story entered?
2. does the title have to be the same as this thread/ or can we invent our own?
3. does the story have to correlate with this subject matter, exactly?

Thank you

By the ending of March 21 (11:59 PM EST)

2. does the title have to be the same as this thread/ or can we invent our own?

(AIASP) This should appear in the title. The title can be of your own invention otherwise. Don't add the story to this thread, but instead post it in the Short Story forum.

It needs to be about being alone in a strange place, cut off from everyone else somehow. Take a quick look through the forum and you'll see the way others have worked on the idea.

Good luck

Having spent the whole day and much of the night reading these excellent entries I must say that I am absolutely delighted at the high caliber of writing, intriguing story lines, and superb quality of these works.

Not sure if it has been proposed yet, but here's an idea: Why not assemble the top twenty or so into a collection to be published?! We could even release an annual edition : "The Best Short Stories from Above Top Secret", 2008 ed.! Maybe in magazine format - like the old Amazing Stories rag or a glossy, like OMNI.

It would give ATS even more exposure, attract new membership, and allow some of our best writers to achieve some real publication bragging rights!

Writers could maybe even split some of the revenue with ATS. The amigos, et al, would like more members, greater media exposure, and additional revenue, no?

Anyway - just a thought. Some of our excellent writers sure deserve to share their fantastic writing with a wider audience...

Great Job! Now back to the reading...
