Breaking: Workers Flee Oil Rig After Bomb Alert

news.sky.com

Hundreds of oil workers are being evacuated by helicopter from a North Sea rig after a bomb threat.

A bomb disposal unit was on its way to the facility, which is 175 miles north-east of Aberdeen.

Only just heard about this developing story. Officials haven't yet confirmed the actual nature of the alert. Maybe one to keep an eye on.

I agree with the statement from the union rep. How the hell does anyone get to plant a bomb on an oil rig? Crews are usually helicoptered in so pass through the same checks we'd have at most airports.

Have to see how this pans out but it seems a little strange.

This just in...Based off of bomb scares, oil prices just jumped to 110 a barrel.
Just wait....it would not surprise me one bit.

BBC quotes a spokesman talking about "a woman on the platform who had sparked the incident, but he could not go into details at this stage."

Also reports about "a device."

Explosives can be transported by sea? There's a lot going on at the worldseas these days; remember the cable cuttings all around.

wow, the traders & vampire fortune hunters will exploit anything & everything

probably a disgruntled worker or staff on the small town sized community
atop a steel island.
The 'going postal' syndrome is going 'off shore' too...

"Sky sources: Security incident on oil rig now being treated as a hoax."

A rather elaborate practical joke? I guess the 'whoopee cushion' is now considered too passé.
