I would applaud my teacher for such a rant, as though the media hasn't done their share of slander and libel... I for one believe there has been a degradation of our opinions of middle easterners, especially Muslims, such ignorance is common here in America and it pains me to see people judged by stereotypes rather than their own merits...

I welcome my teacher's opinions, its the conformity to the same old methods of teaching that made high school almost unbearable... No wonder children struggle to learn when its the same methods, same formulas, same material, time after time after time...

As for faked terror videos I don't know, I'm sure they could if they wanted to... heck they could take a Bin Laden video from 1985 and dub some new dialog and make him admit to anything if they wanted to... In a world where Brittney Spears is news I wouldn't put any treachery beyond the News-Media...

I know the OP has fessed up that he was just trolling for...whatever he was trolling for, but I have to jump in and state that I'm quite shocked at a few of the responses to this scenario

As a mother of 3 children, and a daycare provider to 5 other children, I was appalled when I thought a teacher so blatantly tried to force his/her views on students that trust, listen and learn from him/her. I'd be extremely upset if one of my children came home from school expressing political opinions some teacher had forced down his throat.

Turn this situation around. If the teacher had been fervently denying the media was corrupt and told students that they should hang on every word they heard on tv...would you guys have been on the teacher's side then? Or would you still have tried to write off the OP as being too young, naive, or having it 'out' for his teacher.

Because you happen to agree with the personal views of this teacher does NOT make it right for him to try to influence our children this way. I'm sure for every 1 teacher that might share your views, there are hundreds more that don't. I think teachers should save their personal political views for at home and stop filling our kids heads with them.

If this scenario had been real, and it were one of my kids telling me this story....agree or not, I'd be in the principal's office in a heartbeat asking questions.

I do try to teach my kids to think for themselves, and to question everything. But having said that, I've watched my younger kids look at their teacher with total awe and admiration because the teacher showed them that blue and yellow mixed together make green...so you can be sure that they could be totally influenced by someone in that positions viewpoint.

Teachers should remain neutral about things like religion and politics in school period

I have some really bad news for you, its true. The things is, like your said, you dont follow whats really going on. You know the propaganda fed and shoved down are throats from the day we are born. Maybe about five corporate giants own the news and information fed to you. Guess what, it isnt truth that your getting. No, America is not the greatest country in the world nor are we the protectors of freedom and out to help make the world safe. That bull# has brainwashed and created a lazy, ignorant, and obediant population. Believe whatever the government says because its the United States, US cant do any bad. While you believe and blindly let faith in the government comfort worry so you can spend time on important stuff like famous people or video games; a handful of banks in the world control the money and corporate giants control the policy that rule your life. No, did you really think you had a say in this country, voting? Ha, sorry. It is those who have power who controls your world and those who control the money who dictate what will be done with power regardless this is the United State. Or any other place for that matter. Once a great contry a long time ago, good intentions but today is propaganda with smoke and mirrors. Because americans have handed it blindly trusting without question. Photo opps, staged press briefings, kissing babies or having an elderly women stand up in the middle of a speech telling of her sad and tearful situation of losing all her money to medical bills and not being able to feed herself or going back to work after working all her life just to use her like a tool to emotionally create a belief that they care and if elected will change it. Nice to dream, but from their promises to there hair, its all fake. The politics, ideology, infromation is nothing but packaged wrapped up in a pretty bow lies. And looking only at the surface putting all faith in people you dont know so you dont have to give a # is why your teacher is right. Unchecked power grows until is collapses under its own weight. So, if the american citizens are the ones the politicans work for, it is are job to watch and know what exactly is being done in our name. Well it looks like we dropped the ball on that responsibility, which is the only things to keep a free society free. If we have stopped doing the most important job, who is? Turn off the tv, forget what you think you know, start over and re-educate yourself on whats real.

While I see what you are getting at, as other posters have said it comes down to truth. In this false scenario, the teacher was actually telling the truth, not just an opinion. If on the other hand the teacher said the opposite as you suggest in your counter point, the teacher would be telling lies.

We applaud the teacher because of his attempt to spread truth. It has nothing to do with opinion in this case. Had he said the opposite as your counterpoint suggests, we would be reprimanding him for telling lies.

It's the truth as YOU and OTHER people see it. This does not mean that everyone believes that to be true, or that it IS true. I'm betting that if you poll 100 average people on the street, you won't find that the majority agree that the media is fake. If everyone had the same beliefs, opinions and viewpoints, there'd be no point for a website such as ATS.
