I believe I found the right topic to post this thread as, as it fits both education and media, just separately

Anyway, i was outraged in school today to listen to my economics teacher spew about how he thought some news stories he saw on the news were fabricated as propaganda against the middle east.. Understandably teachers are not allowed to voice their political opinions or views to their pupils, and i've witnessed several teachers either stop themselves when they began to touch on such topics or even inform the class that they weren't technically allowed to share their opinion on such also. But today, my teacher did much more than cross the line; i mean he didn't even hold back.

He described videos of al queda (sp?) recuiting children that he had seen as fake (i believe i found the right story and i'll post a link). He kept claiming that these broadcasts were made to create hate, or he said propaganda, against iraq and blatantly said they were brainwashing americans!!! I mean isn't this treason or illegal or something? to slander the news like this?

I felt like speaking out towards him but of course i don't closely follow the news so i decided not to, not quite sure of the particulars. But i found the video i think he's talking about so i still plan to confront him about it tomorrow. The link is posted below. Any thoughts on what i should say to him?

Al queda vid link

The video is about half way down the page. its not a broadcast but i'm sure this is what he was referring to as i found nothing else.

Is it treason? No.

Is it illegal? No.

Is it against school policy? Perhaps.

We get shocks in our life, where we realize something new that doesn't fit into our preconceived notions, or where somebody we respect does something that falls outside our category of acceptable. Usually, a strong emotional reaction like you describe is an opportunity for growth, even though growing hurts. The teacher has a perfectly legal right to his opinion whether it is correct or not.

I did not see your movie (I cannot get even the smallest of net videos on my bad connection.) I did read about a six year old who was used as a bomb. I also read of two mongoloid ladies used that way. I have read for a couple of years now, how Al Qaeda is tying unwilling bombers to driver's wheel and accelarators. They even ask their own Al Qaeda insurgents for volunteers to be suicide bombers and DUPE those new enlistees who are unwilling to be suicide bombers. They told one to deliver a tanker of fuel to Bagdad and they blew it up remotely, probably with cell phone. Al Qaeda is getting desperate as it has blown up all it's volunteers.

That's my opinion anyway. Others will disagree with me and that is their right to disagree ... as it is my right to hold my opinion.

What your teacher did took guts anyway, and I respect that ... whether his opinion is accurate or not.

It's an opportunity for you to re-examine yourself, your opinions, and to grow from what you have learned.

not all media sources are liget and the few that are not all for their stories are. life no matter what subject or what era from the begining of time until the last day boils down to one thing........ $$$$$$$$$$$$$

i was once suspended because my teacher was teaching that a kilometer was longer than a mile and i corrected her. school is temporary like every thing in life. hang in there and you will make it.

in my book what defines a person is the ablity to maintain ones head when all those around you are loseing theirs.

but what do i know...

Although I'm not sure about the Al Queda subject you are referring to, the media is most definitely biased.

For example, what have you heard from Ron Paul in the mainstream media? Probably almost nothing.

I was watching TV this morning and saw a report stating that Mit Romney has just dropped out so there are only 2 republican candidates currently running. In actuality there are 3 but they never mention Ron Paul. Why is that? The media knows he's running so why not mention him?
