ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – While most reports about this past weekend’s Maine Caucus focused on the purely symbolic presidential preference poll, in the meaningful race to secure delegates to the state convention Ron Paul is primed to finish second with likely 35 percent of the total delegates.

Delegates to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis are elected by the state delegates. Internal results from 10 of 16 counties, including the largest cities of Portland, South Portland, Lewiston, Auburn, Augusta, Waterville, Bangor, and Brewer, show Ron Paul picking up 215 of 608 State Convention delegates so far reported, or 35%.

“Ron Paul’s strong second place finish in Maine, in which he beat John McCain, is proof that this race is far from over,” said Ron Paul campaign manager Lew Moore. “We’ll continue to battle for every delegate in this wide-open race for the Republican nomination.”

In the presidential preference poll, with 70 percent reporting, Ron Paul is in third place just two percentage points behind John McCain. However, the Maine preference poll is purely a beauty contest, and in the actual election of state delegates the so-called “frontrunner” McCain is far behind Ron Paul.

His popularity just keeps rising. He gave a great speech to a crowd of 3000 people at rally in Denver a couple of days ago.

Here's the video from that:

This is really cool, I never would have expected that someone who actually represents my views could gain so much popularity in a presidential bid. I'm starting to feel less cynical.

Friends, the truth is Ron Paul has defeated every one of his GOP rivals at least three times, at my present counting.

The fact that he made the final four is remarkeable in this day and age.

As Rush Limbaugh pointed out today, & I have been pointing out for over a year: the mainstream media will anoint the most defeatable GOP nominee so as to make a clear path for global-socialism. Atthis point that looks like McCain.

Full Disclosure: I respect & admire both candidates & have donated to neither

I understand that Ron Paul's camp is trying to keep the fires going, but I have not been able to find anything that supports the claim that Ron Paul beat McCain in Maine. Everywhere I have looked I see McCain with either 21 or 22% and Paul having 18-19%.

Don't misunderstand me, I fully believe in what Ron Paul stands for, but the title of this thread is misleading.

I believe Ron Paul is in this race for the long haul. He fully intends to continue the race through to the Republican Convention. I am not sure how Romney's exodus will impact Ron, if it will at all. You will probably see Romney get votes in those states with Primaries coming up.

As for Rush, he is probably right, the media will choose the most defeatable GOP candidate.

Of course this is just my opinion and I could be wrong.

Not attempting to pigeon-hole the people of Maine.

But they are a little unique... not odd, but operating on a different wave-length from us city-folk....

I've met & served in the military with several persons fom Maine in the Army -- stand up people
(sorta like the character in 'MASH' Corperal 'Radar' O'Riley)

so it doesn't surprise me that the independent people of Maine would vote Ron Paul
