The Moons of My Fingernails are Pyrimids

I did a ATS search and couldn't find anything so I
thought I'd share. I have a rare genetic disorder
called the Fong Syndrome, Nail Patella Syndrome
and also Hereditary Onycho-Osteodysplasia.

It is characterized by several typical abnormalities of the arms and legs as well as kidney disease and glaucoma. It has been recognized as a hereditary condition for over 100 years and is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. That is, the risk of transmission is 50% per pregnancy, irrespective of gender (just like flipping a coin). Approximately 20% of cases are sporadic, being the result of a new mutation. The incidence is approximately 1 in 50,000 and occurs throughout the world in all ethnic groups. From www.nailpatella.org

I've always thought it was kind of strange, my paternal
Grandpa, Mom, and Uncle and Aunt were/are also so
afflicted. Other than funny fingernails, knees and iliac
horns in my pelvis, my life has been pretty uneventful
physically.

I was a wild child, extremely creative and rebellious.
I remember strange places I'd experience between
waking and sleep. I was extremely empathetic but
am less so now. Mental illness and substance abuse
runs rampant in my family it seems we were/are on
some kind of quest.

Any other ATS members out there so afflicted, please
chime in, I'd be interested in sharing experiences.
