Pretty wild...Someone should get a paranormal investigation team in there ASAP. If that many people witnessed things, then this a highly active location that might provide factual evidence that can be recorded IMO...

Bouts of Hysteria after 'ghostly sightings'

DUNGUN: Some 200 students of Sekolah Menengah Sains Dungun probably felt they were in a real live ghost story. They are convinced they saw ghosts flying around the school on Sunday -- in the classrooms, the dormitories and the assembly hall.

With many of the girls at the co-educational boarding school in hysteria, classes for the 600 students of the school were cancelled for the rest of the day.

On Monday, the hysteria repeated itself so the school was closed, and remained so as of yesterday. Many of the students who live nearby have been taken home by their parents, but the out-of-state students had no choice but to remain in their dormitories.

Interesting find DimensionalDetective.

School affected by mass hysteria 'back to normal'

...

He also said that the number of girls involved in the mass hysteria was under 200.

The school principal did permit students, most of them girls, who were badly shaken up by the experience to be taken home by their parents and guardians, he said.

"Of course, several classes had to be cancelled due to the chaos but most of the students, mostly boys who did not seem to be affected, remained in school and attended classes," he said.
Dr Abdul Latiff said it is not uncommon for students, especially girls, in boarding schools to experience such things as seeing ghosts or some other kind of paranormal beings.

So, barring perhaps the number of people involved here, this kind of thing is not uncommon over there. Would this be due to a cultural nuance that leave them vulnerable to incorrect interpretations of particular events or that leaves them more attuned to such things?

Good question. Normally I'd say much of it is misinterpretation of explainable phenomena, as most haunted locations can be explained away through natural causes, like high EMF fields from faulty wiring, banging plumbing creating the sound of what appears to be footsteps, poor insulation creating cold-spots, etc...In this case, there is such a HIGH amount of people reporting things that I feel it warrants an investigation to see if some of the above are contributing factors, or if it really is an intelligent haunt of some sort.

A governmental test run of mind-control technology. All designed to move human beings to fear.

Fear nothing. Laugh at the technology of fear.

This could also be a project blue book practice exercise to see how successfully they can fool people into thinking they're seeing ghosts. And being able to select specific groups of people would be a great test. They've already successfully implemented the technology to make people hear voices in their heads in NYC using a public billboard.
