Afghan Journalism Student Sentenced to Death for Reading About Women's Rights

A young man, a student of journalism, is sentenced to death by an Islamic court for downloading a report from the internet. The sentence is then upheld by the country's rulers.

Kambaksh, 23, distributed the tract to fellow students and teachers at Balkh University with the aim, he said, of provoking a debate on the matter. But a complaint was made against him, and he was arrested, tried by religious judges without -- say his friends and family -- being allowed legal representation and sentenced to death.

This man is being made an example of.

This type of thing further establishes the belief that schools are nothing more than 'learn what we teach you, not what you can learn'.

With all of the worlds differences aside, this is pure fascism in it's finest. Being sentenced to death for mass murder or other crimes is bad enough, but getting the same sentence for being curious and hoping to learn something from a debate to further your education is beyond belief.

It is matters like this that the international community should stand up against. There was the recent matter of the English teacher who was asked by school children to name a teddy bear 'Muhammad' that nearly got her killed.

Humanity seems to have less meaning to those in control. I am surprised that the entire country is not up in arms at the release of this man.
