Philadelphia unveils crackdown on violent crime

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Philadelphia on Wednesday announced a crackdown on violent crime in an effort to curb one of the highest homicide rates among major U.S. cities.

Police plan to put 200 more officers on the streets, boost the number of surveillance cameras to 250 from the current 26, and apply a "stop and frisk" strategy targeting people suspected of carrying illegal guns.

Officials said the goal is to reduce homicides by 25 percent and the number of shootings by 20 percent by the end of the year. Police also want to increase the rate of solved homicides by 65 percent and boost the number of illegal guns seized by 5 percent.

I remember a few years ago when Philly had the top homicide count in the states, and comedian Dennis Miller said, "They are now referring to Philly as the City of Menendez Brotherly love". LMAO
