Curved Runway

Well, this isn't something I expected to find, a curved runway. Fair enough having one on a bit of a slope, but how exactly does one land on a curved one correctly? I'd think it's a bit hard.

Now, if I were good with photoshop or GIMP, I'd replace that little plane with an A380

Looks like Florida. I keep thinking it's some sort of optical illusion, but I can't figure out what it might be.

Either way, I have a hard time believing this is used on a regular basis. Actually, based on all the people on the left taking pictures, I'd venture to guess this was some sort of bet or "joke".

I have seen many sloped runways but a CURVED one is new to me. And next to a busy highway too!! Only about 60 movements a year though from this private airfield that dates back to 1917. Back then it was used by the Army and marine aviation. In between the airfield has been closed and hangars housing the local fire brigade.

Well, looks like I was right on the rarely used thing.

No idea it was in official use at one time though.
