In what seems to be a stunning development South Korea has told American officials that it will send 3,000 troops to support ongoing actions in
keeping the peace in Iraq. South Korea would then become the 3rd largest contributor of forces in Iraq after American and British troops.
The soldiers would be sent to the northern town of Kirkuk and may include special operations forces and combat-ready marines.
The government will submit a bill to parliament on Wednesday for a vote. South Korea's major political parties have said they approve the deployment
of troops.
South Korea has 460 military medics and engineers already operating in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah.
