True, I guess it depends on the mood. If I want to catch a quick buzz, I go with the Captain! But if I want to just sit back, relax, and have a drink while I read or whatever, scotch is the light.

I'm Irish, so it would be hard for me to pick a favorite. Well, except vodka. Vodka sucks, unless it's mixed. Otherwise it tastes like rubbing alcohol.

*edited to add:

I'm telling secrets to the enemy. Not good.

I am glad I saw this before heading out to work....

NO, NO, NO and NO!!!!!

There should be no topic, (Within the T&C) ((And I believe even then it could be expanded for us)) that is off limits to our forum. Some individual members may object for the reasons stated in the rules, but never ever off limits.

I disagree with some of the "if you dont like it you shouldnt be here" stuff that follows. Nor do I think it is a matter of making some topics "off limits." What I do feel is; if the question asks someone to prove a "reality" then that "reality" should be possible. Or what is the point of debating it? The judges are not deciding based on form or style alone, they are considering content, and believability, and so the topic should either be potentially believable on either side, or the topic should be phrased in such a way as to make clear the merits of the topic and not its actual existence is the point.

And that is not the same as "limiting the topics." It is asking that they be presented in a way that makes the topic debatable by either side. MUCH different than complaining about "not liking" the subject. I quite frankly could care less WHAT the topic is. And while I am on the subject, the whole "if you dont like it, shut the heck up or leave" flavor of your post is offensive.

It IS a reasonable subject to bring up, why shouldnt it be discussed? No one is saying that things HAVE to change, but why shouldnt one be allowed to give input without having to hear some cliquish crap like "if you dont like it get the heck out?" I did come to the debate forum to debate. And I will debate any topic, even one I feel is unwinnable. I put more time, care and effort into that topic, knowing full well that it was "doomed" than my opponent did, (no offense, judging by the turnaround time) and I did it to be a good sport and give my opponent a decent fight, when to be perfectly honest I wanted to just concede it and spare myself the hours and hours of work.

There is nothing wrong with asking that the topics issued be phrased in such a way that both sides are viable if the judges are judging on "believability." Obviously, there is no requirement that anyone comply with that request, but it isnt unreasonable to ask. I really dont care one way or the other if it is ever acted upon, because I CAN just "piss off if I dont like it" as your post seems to suggest.

On RE-Reading my post, I saw nothing that would have sparked such an offensive retort. If you took offense to it, I'm sorry for your interpretation, but the offense is that, your interpretation.

The simple fact of the matter is that if ANY topic is "Fixed" or worded, subtly or overtly to better "FIT" some single individuals idea of "debatable", then in my humble opinion, the entire creative, randomness of the system breaks down.

Up until this became an issue, each debate has been perfectly capable of "defining" the parameters by the substance of that which is posted by each debater. In that manner, the debate is perfectly defined and evolves on the merits of the abilities of each opponent and not some set standard that better fits any single person over another.

This allows the Debate Forum to be boasted as being perfectly above board and in no way influenced by the desires or abilities of any one or two debaters.

The "Merits" of any topic, as you state, are specifically in the hands of each opponent. In point of fact, myself and Whatukno argued whether Clowns were the minions of Satan in the "Old Political Debate Forum". While neither side had any 1. Believability, 2. Specific Content or 3. Clear Merits and Actual Existence, (To use your phrases), the debate proceeded just fine and was enjoyable and challenging.

Being too specific, again in my humble opinion, removes any use of imagination and severely limits individual creativity.

Also, just a note:
I looked all through my post and I can find where I said anything that could even remotely be construed as..
"if you dont like it you shouldnt be here"

This is what the debate forum is all about, and then some. Good call Semper

I've realised (in the last while) that we should develop 'thick skins' when it comes to the forums.

It's hard sometimes...but I'm getting the hang of it.
