It looks as if the uk mod may have finally realised that there is only so much upgrading that can be done! and then you start again.

The R1 is a bit of a special case only 3 airframes and a heavy work load. so my question is which platform could we really use?

Hand down one of the ugliest planes to take the skies. However also very very capable.

It seems that perhaps its time to go the same way the USN went with its MMA the P-8

Obviously a 737 would be out, but the A320 family of aircraft would fit the bill. You would have the advantage of better fuel burn and less MRO issues.
