The government is seriously considering giving each taxpayer an $800 rebate to hopefully stave off a recession. This economic stimulus package would
only be effective if people used the money to purchase new items, paying off old debt or saving the money would negate the intent of the government
action. This rational expectation could very well undermine the whole plan. How serious are the governmental employees when to fund this tax cut
somewhere taxes or fees will have to be raised or the national debt will increase which is part of the problem in the first place. Included in this
plan is also a tax cut to small businesses, badly needed, and of course the obligatory tax break for all the largest corporations in America,
regardless of where their corporate headquarters are.
So how optimistic are you that this tax break will have the desired effect?
Who pays in the long run?
Can it improve economic conditions for all?

The first two sources are just announcing the tax breaks but the last one is critiquing the proposed move.

I see the future and I see that we will never see the 800$ that you speak of. I do see more tax breaks for big business instead thats what I see. Now
I have to get back to work.

I have about $800- $1000 in medical bills I'd like to pay.
I have some credit card debt, I'd like to pay.
I have a couple of other bills I'd like to pay.
As you said that doesn't help though... so If I was going to take the money and spend it as it was intended...
I'd buy...
A gas grill
patio set
some clothes for the wife
Thats about it.

Either a pair of AK-47's or a ticket to somewhere in Latin America. This isn't going to happen, no matter how much we want it to.

It's my opinion that the oil companies are probably behind this and know they'll just get it right back within a few months of fuel expenses.
People don't seem to realize who's behind this economic crisis in the name of oil, profits and slavery.
This is like giving the baby a pacifier to shut it up for awhile. PSYCH?

It will never happen.
The government doesn't even like handing out the yearly tax returns much less a $800 pacifier.

I have to believe that the government will cough up the $800 or so for two main reasons, #1. They can pay their corporate friends more money in the
process and #2. It's an election year if Bush can save the economy even for 7 or 8 months he will be the savior of his party and non islamo-fascists
everywhere. And they'll just raise other taxes and fees on the middle class to finance the whole stimulus package, so it's really just a mirage. As
for buying anything new that would be last on my list as all ready noted there's enough personnel debt to go around.

Isn't is just so nice of the government to allow us to have $800 of the money they stole from us in the first place back?
Hmm... if the big G didn't steal from me in the first place (about $10K/year) I could afford to stop renting a crappy little room in a crappy house
in a crappy part of town and actually purchase a home in a nice town free from crack-heads, drunks and 15 year-old kids who think it's perfectly
acceptable to shoot people for being "disrespekted." But that will never happen. Lord knows the last thing the government wants is an independent
strong population.
So, in lieu of being allowed to actually keep what I earn (how horrible I even suggest it!) I think I'll put my $800 towards a new M-4 and as much
ammo and high-cap mags as I can get. Lord knows there's another ban on the way.

$800.00 per taxpayer is an insult. This is just more transparent pandering to the true believers. A desperate attempt to try and make the American
populace believe that the Administration actually cares and is in control of the economic situation. Even my senile, demented, Baptist, ultra
rightwing mother; laughed at this silly attempt at spin.
I doubt that I will ever see a $800 rebate but if I do, I'm going to give it as a campaign contribution to the candidate that I feel has the best
handle on the TRUTH.
Yeah, Sauron, perhaps Ron Paul!!

Well, I would suggest buying junk silver. Anything pre 1964. Lets face it if 800$ suddenly appears, why not forget you got it and just invest in the
faltering dollar.
In several months time you may not have actually made any money but it would probably hold steady on your purchasing power.

and actually, that donate to Ron Paul idea would really be a kick to the governments nuts - great idea.

If I ever do receive $800.00, I would pay down my credit card debt! This is the logical step to being free from owing the same people who would charge
us the exorbitant interest rates on unpaid balances in the first place.
