The link you posted does not mention a distance of .0045 Au, but this:

2008 Jan 29.35570 Earth .003704 .003702 .003706 9.248 7.52 7626.1 .000000

.003702 is the closest apparently...As far as computer foresight goes.

I dont know where you are getting that from this page:

echo.jpl.nasa.gov...

But let me verify for you this:

2008 Jan 28 20:07-22:31 22 30 0.004 315 11x10^6 649000
...too far north for Arecibo to track on Jan. 29-31...

No 29th

GOLDSTONE:

2008 Jan 28 19:12-14:49 26 39 0.004 700 852000 35000

No 29th

From JPL/Horizons

2008-Jan-29 00:00 25.11 35.93 0.0041 2452.722 29.93 0.027362

Only 1 place is showing the 29th and according to that all the rest of the places figures are off by .004 every single day so how accurate this one is I do not know. But I cant see the other 2 places being over by.004 every single day.

There's two kinds of people. Those that stand around and never see anything beyond their nose, and those that look for what might be.

We're not screaming end of the world here. We're just calmly assessing what could happen. Nothing but looking at all the facts.

And if you paid attention in the preschool days to the story of the "Boy Who Cried Wolf' book, in the end there really was a wolf. We're just taking a sober and measured look in the forest for a wolf.

Speaking of time, that is cause for another question... isn't space time different from earth time and what correlation would it have. The speculation may be off by as much as one week.

Last night there were wide streaks in the sky just below and in front of the moon. This may have been smaller ones or just dust from the 2007 TU 24.

I also saw this last night and thought it was some strange looking clouds but didnt say much at all. Not sure of your location but I am in North Carolina.

I thought I'd just share an email I recieved from an amateur astronomer who is looking into this whole thing pretty seriously. Quoted directly from the email he sent to me...

Subject: Re: TU24

Message: Jiva,

thanks I will try and keep you informed. We are conducting a intersect simulation bearing on TU24 to see which continent or body of water it will likely pass over based on earths rotation factor. Should a static discharge be released in the atmosphere should it pass by and not impact the earth its believed just by the mere proximity of TU24 it will be strong enough to cause an unusual electrical/static negative discharge on earth. thus resulting in firestorms - its a wait and see game, but how does one alert the general public if our findings are correct? and so far news media are not covering it or may have been told not too for sake of national panic. who knows? this whole thing has baffled me personally! hopefully this is not a ELE. I think its ironic that the American CIA just recently as of two days ago came out and made a statement that hackers successfully shut down part of a electrical grid in the united states, that was news to me but i think it was a cover story to prepare the american people in case TU24 passes over and disrupts our power grid, they could blame in on a terrestial source and not a celestial one.
Go figure!

I'll keep you all updated on his results/findings as they come in.

All I can say is, good luck having the media mentioning anything...

* Heath Ledger dies

* World markets are going nuts

* Usual political rants

That's all we'll be saturated with for the next week at least.

What is up with the History channel? are they trying to scare us or warn us?

or fear mongering to distract us from something else????
you know like lets keep those pesky CTers busy with this for a while...
Just seems more than a coincidence that History channel has this line up tonight esp. after following last nights lineup of 2012 and Life after people.
I am sure the History channel is perfectly aware of their demographics and the timing on these shows could not be any more lined up.

Somethings going on just cant put my finger on what...

[edit on 22-1-2008 by SEEWHATUDO]

and my good friend NGC mentioned this earlier, we should at least look at the possibility that this is disinfo/false flag to distract.

Not sure if this has come up yet or not but wouldnt at some point here this Asteroid be between us and the sun? And cant we see it on the Stereo at NASA? But then again I forgot ever since the 16th they are all blurred so we cant see crap.

Brad T,

It seems to check against the hour to hour advance available in the JPL modeler.

ssd.jpl.nasa.gov...

If you click it by hour you will see that the above projected hours on the 28th bleed into the 29th (for what ever reason). The end time on the 29th is (14:49) or 2:49 pm (29th) which coincidently is just about the closest the two bodies will get (.0038 au - according to Nasa that is!)

Sort of an interesting aside - 6 hours prior to that 2:49 time on the 29th the actual bodies' distance apart (not the MOID) does not show change from the .0038 au value. This could be attributed to decimal cropping by the modeler with a margin of about 0-13,000 kms. It a safe bet that the Earth and TU24 are moving together/apart some more durring this period.

Best,
-scrap

Well, I don't believe this will impact the earth.

You're eright, it wont. It has already been confirmed to have a 0.0% chance of hitting the earth. In fact its moving away from the earth, and its currently about 0.0214AU, which is hundreds of thousand of miles away. I think the current prediction is for it to miss by 0.0037kms, which is half a million. Check out the source

The link you just posted, check under the background heading.

Right above the Discovery link (in blue) there is the January 29th date. Check CA distance and thats .003704. The minimum distance is .00302 and the maximum distance is .003706.

Do you see it now?

Since 1950? I heard it was discovered only in October last year.

From this point on, everyone should take everything they hear about this thing with a grain of salt. But from what I can tell, it's just not going to do anything

According to the ECHO JPL link Hildar gave, TU24 has been around since 1790!

This thing has been around the block many times, however, this will be the closest its been in recorded history.

Yeah I think you're right. On the link I attached on my previous post it has the discovery dates of all asteroids that are close proximity to earth. 1950's, seems extremely unlikely

Hey man thanks for the investigation. Its great to know that we aren't limited to government sources to track this bad boy.

Anyone have a telescope handy for the next few days to see where this thing is?

I wonder if its on sky watch...

Ok so let me think for a minute the Asteroid slows down on the 28th so it only goes down to .003706. Instead of .004 which it was the day before. Now why was it loosing .004 almost every day before that then on the 29th it slows down to only losing around .000300????? Then speeds back up to .007 the next day. Now thats a really strange thing this asteroid is slowing down to take a look at us? Or the moon. I Think its a huge UFO if it does that dont you?
