AP: Former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge Says Waterboarding is Torture

WASHINGTON — The first secretary of the Homeland Security Department says waterboarding is torture.

"There's just no doubt in my mind — under any set of rules — waterboarding is torture," Tom Ridge said Friday in an interview with the Associated Press. Ridge had offered the same opinion earlier in the day to members of the American Bar Association at a homeland security conference.

Ridge was secretary of the Homeland Security Department between 2003 and 2005. "And I believe, unlike others in the administration, that waterboarding was, is — and will always be — torture. That's a simple statement."

It really is a "simple statement". Why can't current administration officials stand up and speak the simple truth? Waterboarding is a form of torture that was previously used by the world's most evil regimes. We denounced it then but embrace it now. Shame on you Mr. Bush.

Well, it's pretty hard for our decider to on one hand claim that he's "spreading freedom and democracy" to Iraq, then in the other admit to condoning torture of prisoners. Ridge made the obvious statement that everyone in the world out side of bubble-boy Dubya seems to be aware of.
