Scientists at NASA say 2007 was the second-warmest year in a
century.
The temperatures rose last year mainly as a result of the continued build
up of greenhouse gases, according to scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for
Space Studies in New York.
The eight warmest years on record have occurred since 1998, the institute
said in a statement this week, and the 14 warmest years on record have happened
since 1990.
The institute says 2007 tied 1998 as the second-warmest year on record –
2005 was the hottest.
As for the future? The institute predicts “a record global temperature” in “the next few
years.”
