Funny how this always happens during winter.
Contrails show seasonal variations, just like cirrus clouds do.

There was a pattern and not just random trails so there must have been a reason.
Let’s say you have a common flight path extending from south to north. The air mass over head is moving from west to east at 10 miles per hour. If
the commercial airliners that travel this flight path fly by at a rate of one plane every 10 minutes, and each plane leaves a persistent contrail, you
will get a series of evenly spaced parallel contrails, right?

If you are interested, try Flight Explorer for a month. This will tell you exactly what planes are overhead.
Hi Howard :-)
Maybe your right, I'm sure not saying that this not a cold temp thing that could have made the air traffic more noticable, after all, most of the
very high altitude air traffic go unnoticed most of the time.
However, this "one" particular event was in mid "August" . I remember this because I was at a store at the time getting a new car CD player and
another customer came running into the building and told everybody to check out the sky on the way out. So I did :-). What I saw involved the whole
sky and it was in a grid type pattern. The sky was a mess with trails and aircraft!. The feeling I got was "What The - - - - " . The parking lot was
full of people looking at the sky also.
There maybe a perfectly rationally explanation for this and yes, I guess it could have been a cold front moving in, but it happened and it was
strange and it was noticed. Since then, it has happened again also. Now, I was born and raised here and "never" have I seen this happen to the
extreme it did in this area. Plus, the high number of aircraft in the sky all at the same time was also abnormal for this area.
I also find it interesting that it seems my area is not the only area in the country where this is being looked at as "strange" or at the least
"noticed"
Might be nothing, might be something! but it was noticed!!
