I have three books in my possession that have lots of material on how the US and the USSR delt with disinformation.
The first book is 'The CIA And The Cult Of Intelligence', by Victor Marchetti. It details in part some of the disinformation that the CIA had
attempted to spread in different parts of the world.
A more recent addition to the US side of disinformayioon is a book called:'VEIL: The Secret Wars Of The CIA, 1981-1987', by Bob Woodward. This book
details other, more recent episodes of CIA disinformation activities around the world.
The third book I have is titled:'The Mitrokhin Archive: KGB, The Sword And The Shield", by Christopher Andrews with former KGB agent Valeri
Mitrokhin, who defected to Britain in the very early 1990's.
All three should be read to see how disinformation activities are carried out in practice by the US and the former USSR, although , Russia proper
still carries out many of the same functions these days with disinformation that the USSR used to do.
