They should be allowed to marry. Even the Bible say's that they should marry so they aren't tempted. Say's something about Lent (abstaining from meat) as well.

1Tm:4:1: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Tm:4:2: Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1Tm:4:3: Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

I heard, not from any world expert authority, but from perhaps a well
read and knowledgeable ordinary person, that marriage is banned
for various reasons, one of which is birthright and inheritance.

It is at least a factor that is eliminated, what do the wife and
children inherit when years have eliminated accumulation of
that much wealth for the individual priests. And if allowed to
accumulate great secular wealth, the potential for legal problems

I have heard of priests studying physics and being quite educated
and suppose could publish as well as any one.
Can't say what the bounds are on non ecclesiastical studies and
publications but imagine they stay with scripture interpretation.
Every prophet had a lesson as we are told.
