Kind of a funny thread, but I figured I should share. In the ultimate "My deity is better than yours" battle. I gotta give the victory to Atheists

After a 10-year fight, the VA finally relented, agreeing to add the pentacle to its list of 38 other approved religious symbols, including an atom for atheists.

Despite such blind faith in the secular power of government and its official list to define approved religions so as not to entangle itself WITH religion, our government hasn’t cleared things up for me.

So I went looking for that atheist atom, the official government symbol of Faith in Reason, and indeed I found –
a larger-than-life supernatural hero called The Atom!

cockingasnook.wordpress.com...

gotta admit that's a way cooler symbol than a cross or a white bearded man in the clouds

Haha that is a pretty good symbol for Atheists. I'm liking it myself, I am definitely sticking to atheism.

The Atom can beat up Jesus any day
(no offense, it's a joke)

Very cool, but don't doubt the power of Jesus, he has the power of at least three leprechauns.

All that's left now is for the kiddies to have a campus crusade for Cthulu.

I thought the Atom was the Government symbol for the atomic energy commision? Why do Atheists need a Government symbol in the first place?

Faith in reason? Why is it not right to have faith for Christians but it's ok for atheists? Atheists ought to quit trying to look like a religion before they end up being one. Hell they already claim life came from out of nowhere from nothing just to upstage Christs coming back to life.

sheesh,, and they say Christians are nuts

I think it is in an offbeat-sort of way... See the wiki

It belongs to the parody religion of 'Pastafarianism'. I think it's excellent

True that! I've seen lots of Atheist symbols including...

FSM - Pastafarian deity (Flying Spaghetti Monster)
Darwin Fish - Darwin's Evolution theory
Circle - Simple, whole, obvious, all-encompassing
Circle with Capital A inside - Same as circle but more specific
Square - The clean-cut, physical world
Lightning Bolt - How reason and science resulted in something that humanity greatly benefitted from
Invisible Pink Unicorn - Fusion of the mathematical 'void' symbol and a unicorn
Horizontal Axis - Path man takes from birth to death
Bad Religion - A cross with a line through it, anti-religion

None of them really are/will be "official" any time soon, in my opinion.

I don't really like the atomic symbol because I think it should be simple like the other religious symbols. Something I can put on my car or shirt that doesn't just scream "Science Club" or "Geek". I don't believe atheism and science are synonymous either. My favorite symbol is the circle with the A inside because it's not too simple but not too complicated. Plain circles are identified with witchcraft as well.
