MONTERREY, Mexico (Reuters) - Mexican troops and police fought a fierce battle with suspected drug hitmen armed with grenades in a town near the U.S. border on Monday, and one police officer was killed, witnesses and Mexican media said.

I can't believe the mess that is going on right across the border isn't getting much attention from the media. The picture with the story looks like a picture from Iraq. 2500 people were killed last year in Mexico by these militant cartels that are facing off against the Mexican military. Its only a matter of time before this mess spills over the border.

If they made things like this more public there would be even more people calling for the border to be secured ... if not an outright private patriot army down there.

Way too many US government officials and private citizens are in outright denial of the reality of the situation in Mexico and Latin America in general.

Its not like this has not been spilling over into the U.S. already.
