Chad 'launches Darfur air raids'

news.bbc.co.uk

Chad warplanes have bombed two villages in Sudan's Darfur province, leaving six people dead, according to the UN.
The raids took place on Sunday near the West Darfur capital, Geneina - the second such strikes reported in a week.

The air strikes were reported a day after Chad's President Idris Deby said that he would send troops to destroy rebel Chadian bases in Darfur.

Sudan and Chad accuse each other of backing rebel groups, destabilising the region around their common border.

This is something new in the saga of Darfur. Chad take an action of this magnitude could have some serious changes in what has been happening in Darfur. I have been all for an end to the violence and had hoped the multi national African force that has been building would do it. It remains to be seen if this action will have any effect on that.
