Dutch safety ad causes fireworks

www.mediawatchwatch.org.uk

A series of Dutch government ads promoting firework safety has caused offence to some Muslims.

The viral ads feature an al-Qaeda like terrorist cell and their hilariously inept pyrotechnic mishaps. The group is called the Liberation Army Against Freedom.

Saad Saraf, the chief executive of multicultural marketing specialists Media Reach Advertising, is not amused:

What is the campaign hoping to achieve by depicting a negative stereotype of the Muslim community

A search of ATS has found nothing posted on this subject before.

It seems that some Islamic groups and/or individuals are insulted by this series of Dutch made public safety ads. I think they are hilarious. Links to more video below.

Funny as hell man! That was hilarious. Apparently the Dutch really don't seem to care offending muslims. Remember the cartoonist two years back that caused a furor? Perhaps they are getting sick of walking on eggshells around their immigrants. I have spoken to many Aussies, and I know many of them say muslim extremism causes alot of anger there. Especially after that row two years ago of gangs of marauding muslim, mostly teens, terrorizing aussie women at local beaches. It's hard to swim in a burqha.

They'll get offended at anything these days.

My missus should be offended at a safety ad here in the UK in that case. it features a woman driver who has a crash and her son kills her by not wearing his belt...

Obviously, we all know women are awful drivers or is that ad reinforcing a negative stereotype? Is it a negative stereotype to portray a teenage boy as someone who doesn't wear a belt?

Or maybe the safety campaign on TV right now against binge drinking. You know the one, with the man who climbs the scaffolding in an attempt to retrieve his girlfriends balloon, only to fall to his death.

Well, I am offended at that ad as it portrays young white men as boozy idiots with as much sense as a womble on crack.

Bottom line is, we can't go through life worrying who we might "offend", as someone is bound to be offended by almost anything you do, somewhere.

What does freedom of speech mean, exactly?

Can we really say what we want?

Or are we only allowed to say what we want as long as no-one finds it offensive?

Or is it just select groups we cannot offend? If so, why?

i dont see this as an attack on Islam since they dont use any islamic phrases.

i see it more as sterotyping ARABS which by contrast are Muslim,Christians and jews aswell.

the Muslim comunity should shut up there and the Arab comunity should start complaining as by far they have a better case.

by the way im not ARAB. avatar says all

Dude! this is hilarious, I just fell off my chair.

I don't see why the muslims should be offended by this, unless they belong to that group of people

btw the people in the adz are iraqi, they don't find it offensive.

Very well said flags waving. (your screen name is blacked out, can't read it
)
It is true most any group can be offended by most anything these days. I liked the inference of the 'young, drunken white crack wombies'. People really need to get over themselves. The teddy bear named 'Muhammed' they wanted to stone the UK teacher for was just the icing on the cake. Is it no wonder alien civilizations look upon us like an alabama springer show? 'Just act like you didn't see them Ugyranma One'. LOL. My apologies to alabamians everwhere, it was a Pun. Please feel free to unload on ohians.
