First off... dont drag threads from 2002 out of the closet..

Secondly..

Witchfinder General was a title for the Witch hunter in Terry Prackets and Neil Gaiman's book "Bad Omans" ... which is actually one of my favorite books of all time.

And in the real world the term was used by Matthew Hopkins.


He held, or claimed to hold, the office of "Witch-finder General", though this was not a title ever bestowed by Parliament (despite him having to have some form of official jurisdiction), conducting witch-hunts in the counties of Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and other eastern counties of England.
