Atmospheric CO2 beyond safe limit

The Washington Post ran a column today on famous NASA climatologist James Hansen's speech at the American Geophysical Union's December meeting stating that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are already too high. At todays level of 383 ppm, we are far beyond that. It's not over, however. Like a high cholesterol reading, the high CO2 level is a wake up call that we need to get serious about emissions.

So now we are being told by NASA that are CO2 gas level in the atmosphere is beyond a safe level. My question now is, how is worrying about emissions now going to help us out? Isn't it already too late? IMO this should have been taken care of a long time ago. I think even if we get serious about emissions now, by the time we catch up, it is going to be way too late. Even according to James Hansen's comments, it seems we are already beyond repair.
