I have wondered the same thing and I think the only solution is to go old school. with a carburator and manual choke instead of EFI and a ECU, also
points instead of electronic ignition. basically I think the old scool volkswagens will be the onlyt thing left functional after an EMP.
Google is always a good source, and beleive it or not the federal government is as well. I will try to dig up the links, but the feds have seveal
resources avalible to help with this. Its been a while, but basically it involves the use of several relays etc.
Alot of the resources talk of building a Faraday cage around your electronics. For some this is practical, and it depends on an object. it may not be
possible to shield say a car with such a device but smaller electronics perhaps.
