I'm looking for Angel and Demon myths for reference material for a fiction novel I am working on. So if you know any good ones let me know! Specifically of Lucifer, main demons (like Lilith, Beelzebub, ect) or the archangels. I'd prefer they not come from the Bible, but from cultural legends. I am currently reading Paradise Lost (very good poem) and I am going to start on Dante's Inferno soon.
I'd like to get a variety of myths, not just those of christianity.
Thanks guys!

I do happen to know that one religion's god becomes the supplanting religion's demons. Hopefully that will help point you in the right direction.

F'rinstance, Baal became Beelzebub.

Thank you MM, I nearly forgot about that! I need to go back through my myth books soon and dig up anything notable.
I'm really exited about this novel, it'll be interesting how the public will meet it.
I plan for it to contain allusions to many myths. An anthropologist would have a field day trying to identify them all.

Well, that's good, because as far as I know, there really AREN'T many angels or demons in the Bible.

But other cultural references that might give you some ideas (in addition to Milton & Dante) might include:

  • the first 3 "Prophecy" movies with Christopher Walken
  • The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis
  • "Angel" and "Archangel" by Garry Killworth(?)
  • any sourcebooks from Steve Jackson Games "In Nomine" series
In general, I like alt-angel tales as a genre... Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere" or "Good Omens"; there are others I know I'm forgetting. Perhaps later...

Its hard to think with a head full of Rain.
I am the electric messiah, the dark descender,
locked away in this dark room in this dark century.
Is it an wonder the world sickens and dies?

"From the origins, I'm here, days of wrath;
I'm what you'll be. I'll rise up, voracious;
I'm opposed to some of many. I fight, twenty, seven fallen.

We're dust and shadow. Remember you'll die, guilty soul,
your death is my life. Kill all those, It's a sign, I do"

Baalberith said these words any person know what this mean above?
