10 y/o girl arrested for using knife to cut steak.

www.foxnews.com

A 10-year-old Florida girl faces felony weapons charges after bringing a small steak knife to school to cut up her lunch, according to a report on MyFOXOrlando.com. According to the report, a couple of teachers took the utensil and called authorities, who arrested the girl and took her to the county’s juvenile assessment center.

Students sitting next to the girl at lunch say she didn't threaten anyone with the knife; she just used it to cut up her food.

Are you Americans still allowed to carry pocketknives on your key chains?
Sure, you will get those that stand behind actions like this (no matter who the offender is, it's still a crime!), but didn't the states fight vehemently with gun, sword and fist to become that way, United? This has been said countless times, but the people who died for that independence would no doubt be embarrassed and outraged at the complacency shown today by the common populace.

It's like a house that is really old and had years of termite damage. You can't fix it except to tear it down to the foundation stones and start over.

We need to go back to the founding of this nation, to the document on which it rests, and rebuild it, from the bottom up. You can't fix a stupid law here and there, or arrest a crooked politician once month. There needs to be a general and total overhaul to get America back to running in a sane and logical way.

I can only work and hope.

I wonder if that little girl understood her maranda rights when the cops read them too her.

Talk about over-reaction, how do they expect her to cut a steak? A plastic butter Knife wont do the trick...

Hells bells, there have been kids arrested for drawing a knife or a gun on a piece of paper. I kid you not!

This is what happens when a country lets the Communist or Socialist take over government.

NGC2736 is correct, sad ain't it?

I dont think its necessary to bring Leftist governments/economic systems into this argument. Its only going to derail the thread and frankly has little to do with the subject.

The steak should have been cut into pieces before taking her lunch to school, then none of this would have happened. I think she should get life without parole for this. It's a shame that these ten year olds come to our schools with steak knifes knowing the zero tolerance laws. What other steaks was she gonna cut up that day
( sarcasm )

Where has our commonsense gone
You're right NCG, this nation needs an overhaul. When are the parents gonna stand up and protest crap like this

This girl is being taught right now that nothing can be done about her innocent mistake. The government has spoken!

Sure! But it's gonna take more than one. I know, this is a wussafied nation anymore and nobody wants to get involved. What about you? watch_the_rocks. Do you give a s#it !!

I do give a s#it. The least I can do is protest against the local council, who have made me have to drive at least 20 kilometres to a beach where I can walk my dogs, lest the vicious animals maul some innocent, doe-eyed beachgoer.
I voted against this, but unfortunately majority rules. And this is one of the most coastal-townish towns on any coast in the country. Utterly preposterous.

Forget the beachgoers, where's that Mayor . . .

I saw this coming 25 years ago when I was in the Active military. this was an actual charge against a friend of mine "Suspicion of being in an area where Marijuana was suspected of being smoked". No cannabis was found, the drug test was negative, yet my friend was reduced in rank and fined $600 ( $300 for two months ) The Government uses the military to see what "legal" things it can get away with, then implements them on the civilian population.

This was the straw that broke the camels back for me, I decided then and there I would NEVER have children and I have not, it's the ONLY way to protect them

What? No Tazing?

What's this nation coming to?

I think all lunch room workers should be armed with tazers to prevent this kind of atrocity!

(the above is a joke)

People need to get their kids OUT of the public eduction system. This crap is what happens when the government runs the schools. And every time a bill comes up that reforms the property tax code to allow the money to follow the children, people need to support it and demand theirs reps do also.

If people can keep their money instead of paying property rent to the county, they can afford private schools. I went to a private highschool, a Jesuit school at that. Without going into details I was on a first name basis with the dean. They knew how to handle matters: internally. The cops would even respect that, taking kids to the administration instead of arresting them.

What are you talking about ? History is full of accounts where leftist governments disarm it's people. Arresting a little girl is part of the conspiracy of the Leftist in the USA to demonize any type of weapon or any thing that can be thought of as a weapon.

The Leftist ( Communist, Socialist ) governments are not economic systems , they are brutal controlling systems forced on the people.

History is also full of acounts where rightist governments slaughtered anyone associated with democratic, egalitarian, or left leaning policies. Your demomization of anything left seems remenissant of the mentality of the Cold War Era.

While I agree that the arrest of this little girl is absolutely stupid, I see it as PC policy gone wild, not necessarily left vs right.

Hell im on the left and advocate gun rights and gun ownership rights for all US and Canadian citizens of age.

No, Communism is an economic system much the same way as Capitalism is an economic system.

You can have a "closed", communist economy while still having democratic freedoms. Just as you can have an "open" Capitalist economy while having little to no democratic freedoms.

Socialist systems are rarely pushed on the people. Quite the oposite actually, they are usually the result of social and political agitation against those that have it all, at the behest of those that have nothing.

Fair wages, healthcare, occupational saftey, the 8 hour works day, child labour laws, these are the fruits of left agitation against an oligarchic state apparatus.

My friend, we may be on different sides of the political spectrum, but we both want the same thing, to live, work, procreate, and be happy. Must we battle over small differences of opinion?

Roper, we have no Communists or Socialists or any Left-thinking politicians running anything. This is a REPUBLICAN administration, remember? You're talking about fascist governments taking away guns, Lefters do not belive in fascism. It could be argued, however, that fascists are radical right-wingers.

On the topic: Carrying a steak knife is a crime? Last I heard it wasn't, which makes me wonder what the hell did they charge her with? Felony weapons charge - since when are steak knives considered weapons?

The public school system have become nothing more than re-education prisons for kids.

They are in the UK. Try going fishing/hiking with a knife over 3 inches, and be arrested on the spot.

And as for kitchen knives...

We need to ban the sale of long pointed kitchen knives

www.bmj.com...

"Perhaps the pointed kitchen knife has a culinary purpose that we have failed to appreciate? We contacted 10 chefs in the UK who are well known from their media activities and chefs working in the kitchens of five leading London restaurants. Some commented that a point is useful in the fine preparation of some meat and vegetables, but that this could be done with a short pointed knife (less than 5 cm in length). None gave a reason why the long pointed knife was essential."

Over the last six years I've notice that laws are tested in Britain and implemented in America.

I can't even count the number of 'weapons' taken off me in school.
Since the bullies were all to cowardly to fight in anything but a group
it was the only way I had to keep them at bay for a few extra seconds
before I was ganged up on.

Of course the school authorities always sided with the bullies that attended
their catholic church, because you know its obvious that a 60 pound kid
would pick a fight with five 200 pound kids.

It's a little ridiculous that she was arrested, but then again, it's kind of stupid to take any kind of knife to school. I never had a steak at school, and I don't recall ever eating anything in a school lunch that needed a steak knife. I think the moral of the story here is probably don't take a knife to school and you won't get arrested for it. What if all the kids starting bringing steak knives?
