Also, knew about the condom "candy"(real condoms, taste like apple, or cherry((pun intended)) or grape) and beer machines. Think those are also in Germany and France, not sure since I have never been there.

In toronto, canada not long ago a bunch of woman decided to campaign for going topless. Their argument was that men were topless all the time, and they also wanted to exercise that option. Then these t-shirts that had breast imprints on them became a fad, and a fad they were.

Um...yeah. Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but yup, no see through skirt fads over here, unfortunately. I've lived in Japan for the last 5 years and think that something like that would at least be picked up on the radar.

A few of you mentioned about all the vending machines...oh brother do Japanese love vending machines. Here's just a few of the doozies that I've personally seen here in Happy Land:

Coke machine in the middle of nowhere, next to a rice paddy with no visible power cord (Hokkaido)

Used high school girls panties (Ueno)

Porno comic books (Kichijoji, Shibuya)

Porn mags & videos (just about every rural roadside in Hokkaido)

Dildos, vibrators, codoms, lube, etc (in the room at a love hotel in Sapporo)

Canned chicken on a stick / yakitori (Tokyo)

Beer & cig vending machines are also everywhere and aren't regulated in any way shape or form. They're automatically shut off at 11PM though to "keep underage kids from buying" Uh huh...nice logic there. One of the best beer machines I ever saw was right off campus of the place I went to school in Tokyo (ICU) though. For something like 1,000 yen, you could buy a 2 liter of Kirin Beer right out of the machine. Man that thing sounded like an earthquake going off when it popped out.

As far as fads go though, the trendiest place is in the Tokyo neighborhoods of Shibuya & Harajuku. The biggest style going in these areas right now (or may have just passed as I type this) is "pagyaru" or dressing up in stuffed animal costumes with racoon type make up (sorta have to see it to understand it).

And you thought see through skirts were bad...

Oh yeah...forgot one more...

Some of you may have heard of a place in Tokyo called Akihabara. Sorta like the electronics fantasyland of Asia. In anycase, there's a certain group of Japanese...nerds, for lack of a better word called "Akiba Kei" known for hanging out in Akihabara and buying everything from computer stuff to Macross-type toys to anime porn.

Catering to these guys are a bunch of cafes that have recently opened up where the waitresses are friggin' hot women in their early to mid 20's wearing French maid outfits. As soon as someone comes in the door, they say something to the extent of "Welcome back, Master!" and pretty much wait on these guys hand & foot...but it's not any kind of freaky sex thing. It's just a cafe.

I dunno...I've given up even trying to understand Japan anymore...

I know this sounds awful but I thought the low cut jeans look was pretty sexy on some women until we started seeing lots of inappropriate "muffin tops" out there, letting too much all hang out if you know what I mean...

There actually is a trend in Japan which is considered the injured look. Women dress up with eye patches and medical gauze. The harijuku district is just plain madness!
