One thing i disagree with the predators concept is that they are not only a sentient species, but also one with a very high intelligence. Able to
create advaced intersellar (if not intergalactical) technology!
Makes no sense if u relate it with their carnal and primal nature. It will make more sense if they were a semi sentient species. Not an animal but not
very smart too. It also would make more sense if they are only a part of a more complex society. Serving as the warrior caste, a seperate species
recruited as manpower in warfare.
The master caste could be some sort of a ethereal, then. They also have alien greys and green little men, serving as mechanics and engineers. Those
who creates all of the weapons and ships used by the predators. The green engineers aliens are capable to photosinthese, which make them very
efficient in producing energy source for them to carry their work. They are not a real species which could reproduce by themself, but rather cloned in
a lab.
Back to the predators, they live in their own code of society. The warrior code, like the samurai perhaps. They gain rank and position by collecting
as many trophies from their prey. The more dangerous the prey is, the higher score is added to the warrior. The entire hunting process itself is even
monitored by a kind of surveilance technology.
Clashing the predators with the xenomorph aliens is a way controling (the number of)this savage species of predators. Otherwise they could attack
their own masters. It is also a way of developing a constantly new and more efficient warfare and strategy, to serve the agendas of the master race.
The predators are sometimes even killing among themselves. As depicted in the recent film PREDATORS (2010).
The xenomorps arent a sentient species. So its quite save to consider them wont spread interplanetary, without the help of other races possesing
spacetravel ability. So they function as a insurance policy against the predators.
This scenario would make more sense to me, rather the one in the recent comic books.
