clever... but republic isn't the right word to use there, republics have elected officials, and, last time i checked, nobody elected any deities.

Check again. Your definitions, that is.

A Republic is representative government ruled by law (the Constitution). A democracy is direct government ruled by the majority (mob rule). A Republic recognizes the inalienable rights of individuals while democracies are only concerned with group wants or needs (the public good).

More simply, in a Republic, the will of the individual outweighs the will of any group, large or small, including majorities.

Perhaps that is the essential root of the misunderstanding between religion and those who would decline the various religious definitions of GOD.

We are each a cell in the body of GOD. But we each have a mind that we are free to exercise in any way we please at any time we choose.

If that were realized, then certainly such issues would become null and void. As well as clean up Capitol Hill.
