Cheney Accused of Blocking Californian Bid to Cut Car Fumes

www.commondreams.org

The US vice-president, Dick Cheney, was behind a controversial decision to block California’s attempt to impose tough emission limits on car manufacturers, according to insiders at the government Environmental Protection Agency.

Staff at the agency, which announced last week that California’s proposed limits were redundant, said the agency’s chief went against their expert advice after car executives met Cheney, and a Chrysler executive delivered a letter to the EPA saying why the state should not be allowed to regulate greenhouse gases.

BushCo, full of gas, poisoning the air we all breath for profits.

More damning evidence raises it's glorious head to assert itself onto the unknowing public as to what BushCo has been doing.

Deliberately stopping the reduction of poisonous toxins... what were they thinking?

In an editorial, the New York Times described the decision as, “an indefensible act of executive arrogance that can only be explained as the product of ideological blindness and as a political payoff to the automobile industry”.

Wow. Big shock.

Why, oh why, am I not surprised in the slightest?

We are profitable cattle to these people, and nothing more.

Good find.

Not that I am going to defend this...hell, I agree with the idea of us "Sheeple"being nothing but a cash source, BUT, using Cheney or Bush as a scapegoat for other political inaction just sounds like a good idea.

No they are not poisoning the air we breath. Do you think they breath some sort of different air from the rest of us? Of course not.

Do you realize there are negative consequences to making laws which are to strict, to fast, regarding this issue right? It puts a tremendous burdon and cost on car manufacturers for instance which in turn will significantly increase costs for the consumer. The same goes for other industries this will affect like paying even more for electricity.

The people in Washington do not sit in LA traffic nor do they breath los angeles air
or any air in California for that matter. Think of 9/11 and "the air is safe".
The people who said that did not have to spend more than an hour near ground zero breathing the air. The people living in lower Manhattan are still breathing those particles.

California should just make it illegal to own those cars that don't meet their requirements.
I'm sure the Japanese and European car manufacturers will fill the void.
Hell if they can outlaw a plant, why not an auto technology?

The financial cost is not the problem. It's not having the restrictions and the laws to stop it.
The longer these car companies continue to do as they please, the longer the world suffers and that includes the people on it.

The burden on car manufacturers is supposed to be there, to make them do something. The only way it will affect the consumer is because of the corrupt people who control the car companies and the current government and banks.

They're the problem. and the deliberate blocking of anything that is of a huge benefit to the world in order to gain more profit is tantamount to premeditated murder as you are aware that you continue to pollute the environment, the food chain and the people.
