Jewish 'return' hits 20-year low

news.bbc.co.uk

The Israeli government says Jewish immigration to Israel has fallen to its lowest level in 20 years, with fewer than 20,000 Jews arriving in 2007.
The agency to promote Jewish migration to Israel said the Diaspora had less reason to leave countries of origin, while Israel was losing its appeal.

Israel's Law of Return allows anyone who is Jewish or has a Jewish spouse, parent or grandparent to be a citizen.

Immigration is an important factor in Israel's survival as a Jewish state.

The relice also goes on to say that the economic growth in Russia has slowed the Jewish citizens from leaving there country, and the election of a french leader who has Jewish roots has made Jewish feel more comfortable there. I am not sure I completely understand how important immigration is for Israel. Twenty thousand is still a lot of people coming to what is really a rather small country.

The 20,000 immigrants would probably be only a fraction of the difference between births and deaths. Western culture usually results in negative growth, with average birth rates less than what's required to keep a steady population. You need at least 3 children per family just to break even.

Does the three children per family make up for the percent of people who do not have a family of there own?

However, many Christian Arabs and Muslims have been flocking to Israel too (well, mainly Jerusalem).

Most of the Jewish immigration came from Russia, but with the economic boom over there, why move? That's the problem Israel is now facing

sorry but what cautious jew would want to return home when the prime minister appears to be either suicidal or hates us and from all appearances would rather be the 12th imam (mahdi/divinely guided one)that ahmadinejad president of iran wants to bring on the world scene by creating chaos--which extremist muslims believe is necessary to bring him and allow them to conquer the world under his leadership.forgive my lack of "faith" but i'll wait till i'm ordered home before jumping out of the frying pan into the fire-thanks

What is even more important is how Israel is treated. God said He would bless those who bless thee, and curse those who curse thee" Isn't it amazing how when we cause Israel harm and suffering that we as a nation suffers. We (the USA) helped evict thousands of Jewish citizens from their homes and places of worship and handed over 9,000 square miles of land to the enemy in exchange for a "promise" of peace (for which they gave war instead). Withing a month Hurricane Katrina slammed the USA and took out 90,000 square miles of territory, and we haven't fully recovered. Then there was Rita, and Wilma. Now we are seeking to do it again and force a "roadmap to peace" down their throats, where we shall help divide the city if Jerusalem. Now if God be true (and he is) and we divide their nation and give parts of it away, what shall happen to us, will we have to surrender some of ours to the illegal aliens streaming across our boders, and shall our nation also be divided.

I have sympathy for Israel because they have always been our ally, and look how we treat them. So hold on... it's going to get real scary in the near future.

BTW The floods, fires, earthquakes, ice storms, violent crime etc. is not all because of Israel, but simply our rejecting God, so it comes upon us because it can. We are being devoured by the "destroyer".

Does the way Israel treats the four million or so Muslims come into your equation any?

Great allies they have been

Selling US tec to china and so on great allies
with Friends like Israel who needs enemys

anyhow on topic great

the less people packed and moved the better goes for both sides
Israel has no right to put squaters on occupied Land.
the more they put the larger the thawn they put in place for any peace deal.

which Gives Hamas more reason to fight as israel are just bring in more baggage to steal more land which isnt its. and in return Israel justifies more grand collective punishment for all.

and if anyone uses this israelis were here first
the land was owned by other people before the isralites even stepped foot in that land. dont bother.
