OK, in the United States, when you turn 18, you become a legal adult, you can vote, go to jail and join the military/be drafted(if there were a draft). Yet, you can't buy alcohol or be drunk until you are 21. Why is this. The legal drinking age used to be 18 but it was changed so, shouldn't they raise the age of legal adulthood? I'm 24 now but, this has always bothered me.

Technically, your brain isn't done maturing until you're about 25. Something else to think about.

And when you reach 25, your "mature" brain is only 10% or so of the actual brain. Something else to think about

Explain. That seems like a shovelload of # to me.

Maybe so! Didn't someone once say that we only use 10% of our brain? It could very well be a shovel of "#", but it is obvious that we don't utilize the potential of our brains as well as we could.

We don't use our brains as we should, but however, we use all of our brains all the time.

We only consciously use 10% of our brain. The other 90% is used for involuntary functions (Heart beat, breathing etc..) and translating physical stimuli in to a "feeling".

It's because your Government and Special Interest Groups think of all people as Unfit or Incompetent to make any choice for themself, including what you do with your own body. Which, in a way I suppose they have a point. Since most people never have to figure anything out for themselves and simply do what they're told, most people couldn't make a good choice even if they had to. They lack the experience and practice in doing so. Besides that, you are NOT FREE or even a person in terms of Legal Representation. You are simply a number in the system. A statistical value of almost no significant meaning. YOU ARE PROPERTY OF THE STATE.(actually, you are more property of the Federal Government nowadays, but that's practically the same thing anyway.) The sooner you come to fully realize what that means and to the degree which you've been Lied to and Sold Out before you were even born, the sooner you'll understand the WHY's to not only this question but about a million others.

Ironicly, after you realize the truth behind some of your "Why" questions dealing with Law and everything else.......YOU ARE GOING TO NEED A STIFF DRINK!

It doesn't make much sense, but oh well.
Here in Canada the drinking age is 18-19, depending on the province. More of a reasonable age, IMO.
Why can you buy cigarettes at 18, and not drink til 21?
bah, it's all stupid.

I believe the reason for increasing the age on drinking was becasue of Drunk Driving. The number of deaths involved in these incidents is high which is probably why they did it.

If that is so, you have to wonder if the occurence of drunk driving has lessened.

How long has the drinking age been 21?

No offense because I have drank my share before, but the world would be better off with no booze if you ask me.

That's what I'm sayin'. They should change it so you can do both of those things at the same age.

I agree, nothing good comes from it. You get a slight buzz that can be aquired from your self esteem. If you think you are on top of the world then most likely your gonna act like it.
