NSA Gets Real Time Access to Your Email

www.blacklistednews.com

In other words, increasingly, the NSA is reading your email and everything you type in your IM client and in real time, that is to say there is no delay in the timeliness of the information, the underwear drawer snoopers have the ability to read your IMs as you type them.Certain privacy/full session SSL email hosting services have been purchased/changed operational control by NSA and affiliates within the past few months, through private intermediary entities, notes Cryptome.

Well it has happened I guess. Realtime snooping into all of our emails and instant messages. I guess all of our information is always up for sale for the right amount of money. Be careful what you type!!! Our privacy seems to be becoming less and less as each day rolls by.

hahaha oh jesus. laughing is just a nervous reaction.. sorry guys. This isn't good. This is bad, really bad. What very little freedoms we have left are being stripped from us and no one really seems to care...or they're just not doing anything about it.

God, I hope things change and I hope they change drastically and soon.

the land of the free is no longer the land of the free

Maybe we need to organize. Have one day where everyone sends IMs and emails with 'The EnEssAy slurps donkey gonads' a few thousand lines at a time. Civil disobedience and all that, eh?

(j/k; as if it would matter).

Do the idiots at blacklistednews even attempt to understand any of the trash they report on? This is getting to be worse than alternet.

I mean they ramble off something of a history of the Internet and then proceed to state that the NSA is capable of breaking the most common method of encryption for end users, which is nothing new. Then they somehow conclude this means that a human is actively sniffing everyone's traffic with keen interest in their instant messages for some reason, supporting this theory by listing three puppet service providers that I've never even heard of. I'm with Roland Deschain... that definitely had me laughing.

And they can't make up their minds on that metaphor... are they underwear snoopers or underwear sniffers? There is a difference you know.

Well, while this is unfortunate, it doesn't surprise me. We are living in not oonly a country, but a world where personal privacy is becoming rarer and rarer.

The NSA and every major and minor spy organization has the technology to watch these IMs and Emails? Yes, they do. Hell, a common hacker does. Nothing special...

But...

13.9 billion instant messages are sent each day... 183 billion emails are sent each day.

That is 160,879 instant messages a SECOND.

2,118,055 emails sent a second.

The NSA has the man power to read all of these in real time? I highly doubt it.

That's why the NSA has vast arrays of super computers that are scanning the data contained in the emails/IMs for critical keywords/keyphrases with sophisticated recognition software.

Or do you really think that Special Agent Smith is assigned to email scanning duty every Wednesday because he screwed up on field work?

Come on. Seriously.

The article author sure seems to think that.

Data mining is old news. I know us hacker types are more than familiar with such paranoia and well versed in how to share data securely. I've always preferred steganography myself. But mining domestic traffic is not only a huge waste of server time, it's impractical. One can probably be confident that any international data will pass through one or more filters. But they simply do not care about your emails to grandma. And they definitely are not "reading your instant messages as you type them." Unless of course you're messaging Ahmed Mohammad in Syria. Then yeah, duh, you might have an audience.

I know they do, but the news article makes it look like "OMG they are reading EVEERRRYTTTHHINNGGG...."

Yes, again, I have no issues with super computers reading my text. Even as I type this now, it is being logged in some form, that will be picked up by multitude of servers, then finally appear in the forum here. Then other servers will pick it up when people view the page, etc... same things for you're IMs, they do not go directly to you're contact, and at all times it is in communication with you're computer. It is not special, hard, or scary that this is being done (and can be done) by anyone.

Point being: Even if they are watching, they're not going to get in on much. What are they going to do, go report someone for talking about Hacks for E.V.E.? Unless you are doing illegal things, this is not an issue. It never was an issue.

The NSA is better at what they do than the CIA is.

Do you think the CIA can do what ever they want to your computer and phone?

Yes?

OK, so why not the NSA?

Agree? Yes? Good.

So now - why is this news?

If you think you've had privacy at any point during your history on the Internet, then it won't be hard for you to believe there's an NSA agent in your underwear drawer sniffing your underwear.

You can't lose something you never had.

This isn't anything new guys. I hate to say it but Project ECHELON started a while back. I have one link that summarizes the just of it, i'm sure with more digging a more detailed summary could be found.
Basically Echelon makes it legal for the government to track all cell phone calls, all e-mails, home phones, ect, ect.

This has been happeneing for longer than they want us to believe. Its a sad day when the average working man is given equal rights to high profile criminals.
