As we pass through the season of toy recalls into the season of Christmas consumerism, none of the presidential candidates on either side of the aisle have focused on a singular issue that would send a powerful signal of commitment to protecting Americans.

Who is out there protecting Americans from these hidden hazards? The answer: practically nobody.

There was a great documentary on this the other night on C4.

Suffice to say that I was enraged at the cavalier attitude of toy makers (mostly in china) and also with the fact that our respective governments can't be bothered to do anything worthwhile to protect our children from potentially harmfull products.

Interestingly, the US provides more protection than the EU does regarding these unsafe toys - which just goes to show how limited the protection is over here.

But I suppose to the powers that be, a few sick,injured or dead kids don't matter as long as the profits aren't harmed or the chinese are insulted.

Anything for a bit more cash, eh?
