Most of you may have seen the amazing high speed pass during fleet week. I had an awesome link emailed to me showing pictures below the boat masts and a video that shows three high speed passes.

Blue Angel at San Fran

Makes you wonder if the pilots are responding to the anti-military stance of the San Francisco City Council.

My carrier group made it to San Francisco Fleet Week back in the 90's. Unfortunately the fog rolled in and cancelled the Blue Angels performance. I would have loved to see them fly under the Golden Gate bridge and by Alcatraz. I did get a chance to see them twice this year. It just never gets old.

Those are some amazing pics on the linked page. I was in SF for fleet week in 98-99?. I was on a hilltop in a park and the blue angles flew over at less than 100' . One went under and looped over the golden gate bridge and another one flew eastward through the city, following one of the main streets, below roof level of the multi-story buildings. That day was the most exciting display of flying I will probably ever see.

Thanks for passing the link on, on_yur_6 .

The closeup with the 'wake build-up', is further illustrated by this video from
the OP link.

Here is the picture I was referring to in the previous post.

(The photographer, Bernard Zee, graciously provided permission to show some of his shots.]

A closeup of the above pic, notice the visual distortion caused by the shockwaves... cool huh?
The jet is not yet supersonic, but is in the transonic region.
