The company received a $3.6 million contract to develop the boomerang small arms detection system for use in helicopters.

It sounds like a good idea since it is difficult to identify small arms firing while flying inside a typically noisy helicopter.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency announced it has awarded $3.6 million to BBN Technologies for small-arms detection development.

Massachusetts-based BBN was awarded the DARPA funding in an initiative to develop a small-arms detection system for helicopters.
