The Bush administration started its own policy with the logs, he claimed they were presidential records, and had the Secret Service (who keeps a log of the presidents guests) destroy their copies of the logs after they gave a copy to the White House. The Bush administration just decided that this is how they wanted the logs to be handled and that was that!
ARROGANCE! (Doesn't matter what the law says to King Bush)
The big problem with this is that the logs are Secret Service records, and they are not allowed to be destroyed without approval from the National Archives.
Apparently Bush didn't want it to be public record who the prominent religious conservatives were who visited him, according to the article.
Of course, these logs could be used against him later also, like they were with Bill Clinton:
President Clinton's political opponents made extensive use of 1990s Secret Service logs documenting White House visits by donors, money-raisers, pardon-seekers and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
Again, Bush trying to keep EVERYTHING he possibly can a secret, but at least it didn't work THIS time!
