Economy Sinking Government Knows & Giving Bad Info

Jackinthebox has no sense of the personal responsibility and he doesn't want Americans to face such concepts, that much is obvious. He keeps ignoring proof, and ignores everything when it shows hes wrong. Personal experiances mean everything to him because he apparently has never taken a statistics class and is incapable of understanding that singular cases cannot be generalized to the entire population.

Thanks for telling me how my life is jack. You are so pathetic. I don't advertise a "woe as me" story because I REALIZE that MY PERSONAL STORY does not equate to reality for the entire nation. I could tell you how hard I've had it, but I know life isn't fair. You are beyond delusional. Come back and talk to me when you work 2 jobs in college to pay the bills and to avoid having to take out loans. I am sorry that you were not intelligent enough to get MERIT BASED aid in school. If you had ever been to graduate school, you would understand that in good schools, no one gets need based aid - not one dime. Every dime I get is based on merit and is provided by private donors. Yes thats right, I EARNED my aid. I EARNED my money, I didn't ask the government for a handout. I know this upsets you - the thought that people attend school on private donations because of their merit. How dare I not be stupid and flunk college so that I had to pay for graduate school.

You are trying to justify your own life decisions - get over yourself. I will speak for the people who have worked hard and made proper financial planning. The people who worked many jobs in college and worked there way up the corporate ladder, the people who knew that life was a choice and made the decision to prepare for the times when life is unfair. The list goes on.

And those people who go out and buy a big TV or expensive car deserve no sympathy. After all, they made the decision to purchase those things and they are not the only consumers in this world. I don't think they should be stupid enough to think they are entitled to these things, like you do. Furthermore, they listen to people like jackinthebox, who tell them that its OK to buy what they want because they are entitled to luxries they cannot afford. And people like jackinthebox, who encourage these people to blame everything on the government and big bad corporations.

Or maybe we should all stop and realize that people are capable of determining when they can and cannot afford something. Maybe people could take personal responsibility and pay their debts. I smell someone so blinded by political ideology they can't wake up out of their BLAME EVERYONE BUT ME slumber.

Under 35k - Low Class

Well I make about that .... but I am 21 with no formal college degree. I wouldn't consider my self "lower class" ... in fact, compared to everyone I am friends with, I make the most money. Probably combined. Some of my friends are.. meh thats another story. Anyways.

My point is actually that you are correct in saying "who defines class" .. for some 35k is dirt poor. For some like me it means a new car in the future, a nice apartment and enough money to hit bars on the weekends and eat out quite often. But again, I am 21, 35k is a hell of a lot of money to me.

36k - 70k - Middle Class

For a family 36k per person would put you in the lower class imo .. that is only 70k a year combined, take out taxes and well.. lets just say lower middle class a best.

70k - 150k - Upper Class

When does one become "upper class".. When you can afford a 500k house and two new cars wearing designer clothes.... yet still having upwards to 200k in outstanding debt not counting your mortgage? I know people who make 100k+ and still struggle. Mostly through, imo, stupidity. And its sad to realize how many stupid people there are. Especially when it comes to budgets and finances.

Some people earn in the "middle class" spectrum, yet live in the "upper class" spectrum, and there in lies the problem ..

Mostly its the people who make 100k a year combined and live so far out of their means its insane, as the average middle class family earns 45-65k per person.

But its all relative to how you live. Someone making 35k a year can be worth more then someone making 60k a year if you know how to stay out of debt, budget and invest wisely.

But.. its America. We just... don't do that.

You are right, that was me typing quickly. As someone else pointed out, class is much better measured by networth. But I think you would agree that 99,000 per year is not middle class and $250,000 per year is certainly not "upper middle class."

Much of annual income is dependent upon where you live. In Washington DC, 35k a year is poverty. In rural South Carolina, its middle class.

Im very curious to know what you do for a living. Im willing to guess you either grew up in a rich family and rebelled and make amends your now some baptist minister or you are just one of those guys who are in front of your computer 24/7 living in some world that does not exist. I have nothing more to say to you..you live in some mythical reality and do not understand what life is like in the real world. Frankly I know because I grew up in it and have to go back to that reality everytime I go to visit my family in Iowa. This is how I keep in the real world.

Ok we will assume class is done by net worth ok? Well a majority of a typical families net worth is in their house....we all know where that is going right now...Ok so lets go to 401K hows your 401k doing these days hmm? Right down the tube just like the stock market....ok so lets go to peoples savings...oh wait no one saves anymore....wow peoples net worths really are looking good right now.

Ok you know what Im going to throw this out here for the simple fact that I think you think I am some guy who just has had everything handed to me and that I think everything is blame government....
Im a highschool drop out with no college education....I went and worked for a supply house and "worked up the ladder" from warehouse rat to sales. I then decided to take a risk in a cleaning business which failed because I wouldnt hire illegals and pay 4$ an hour which every other cleaning company does down here. So I went to back to work at my sales job and then took another risk starting an online company. I sold the company and made a little money. I spent countless and I mean countless hours building the buiness to get it to where it was and it was stressful but finally got over it. Then I started and investment company with me and 3 others and we now employ 25 people. Guy ive worked from the bottom up and for you to say I dont know what Im talking about you dont know me from a hole in the wall. Talk about I believe in socialism and free handouts. No if you dont put an effort then you should get no help. But if you do and you work your butt off sometimes a little lift is what a person like you or someone else needs to get to that next level so they can be successful. I caught a break I met the right person and worked for the right jobs and the right times and caught some lucky breaks and got help. I dont forget that and that is the difference between me and someone like you.I think you grew up rich would be my only guess why you look at everything so black and white. You talk about grey in your other postings but on this thread there is no grey its black and white.

I have worked since I was fourteen. My intelligence level has been proven to be quite high in testing, however this does not equate to opportunity in the real world. In the real world I started working 60-80 hours a week when I should have been finishing high school, but had to support myself instead. I got NO AID. I had to drop Honors level classes. I got a near perfect score on my GED and was on the Dean's List in college when the bottom fell out again. This time all it took was a blown clutch in a $400 car. So where is all this opportunity you keep talking about? I work hard. Where's my reward? Maybe I'll come get it from you.

True in Ohio 35k is decent enough, defently not lower class.. not when new house prices are 150-200k (for a nicer one). Moving to Oregon next year.. well.. I will need to find a way to make far more then 35k lol.

But your right that 100k+ is not "middle class" .. tell any middle class that 100k+ (especially 250k lol) is middle class and well, first they will ask if your serious then laugh in your face. Perhaps our economy has an infinite number of financial classes, based not only on net worth, net debts and annual incomes, investments and asset holdings, but also life styles, location, type of employments, earned and non-earned so on and so forth.. perhaps even classification of job security. The "three class system" is .. sweepingly over generalizing.

I was bored one day, unemployed, and decided to post my resume on monster.com ... 2 days later got a call from a company and now make a comfortable living. Only have some college, I had to drop to support my self. Kind of ironic.

You wont get any sympathy or help from him....I just hope Lightindark gets as much help in life as he is willing to give others....none. I feel your pain I was there once too. I had a time when i was the warehouse rat making $300 a week I was driving home one night and chased by a car full of gangbangers at night for no other reason that I was white. I blew my rotars breaks timing belt all sorts of crap to the tune of $1500 worth of damage. I didnt have the money and I didnt have credit I was without a car and had to walk 2 miles one way to work every day. Finally after 3 weeks of the torture my boss lent me the money in which I paid him back promptly. It sure did make life alot easier.

Heh I too was handed these cards. I didnt get the golden spoon, silver spoon, or pewter spoon, I got my fingers. But you know it was good inspiration to get me to where I am today. I dont forget where I come from and when I do I know that will be the day my downfall comes.

I really do admire the people here who have worked hard and have been justly rewarded, but have not lost their humanity in the process. You are indeed an inspiration.

As for myself, I'm not really all that worried these days. Doesn't do any good and I don't want to be too busy worrying that opportunity passes me by.

I just don't want to live in a police state where you're either a slave to the man, or a gangbanger. The in-between is slipping away fast.

Again, no one cares about your sob story. I don't share mine because I realize that it doesn't matter for the subject at hand. I started working at 14 as well, but again this has relevance to the subject at hand. Trying to prove "who has it harder" does nothing but delude your point of view and illuminate that you have no evidence for what you say. No one said hard work deserves a reward. Should have went to a better college, or went to one that provided you financial aid.

It's life. I've worked harder, actually - but I don't feel the need to share a sob story to prove a point. This goes to both you and "mybigunit" - when will you people understand that all your doing is creating one huge appeal to emotion fallacy which shows you have no valid evidence for your point of view?
