Congress Will Defy Justice Dept. on Destroyed CIA Tapes; Harman: 'We're in Constitutional Crisis'

rawstory.com

It smells like the cover-up of the cover-up. Congress does absolutely need to exercise its Constitutional responsibility. We're an independent branch of government and we can do this very well."

Of White House stonewalling on the investigation, Harman says, "We have a system of checks and balances and it's broken. We're in Constitutional crisis because of the arrogant view of some in this administration that they can decide what the policy is, write the legal opinions to justify that policy and be accountable to no one."

It's about time Congress didn't just roll over and just walk away when they are told to do so by Bush & Co..

The system of checks and balances were put in place so that one branch of government could not just do whatever it wanted to! It's high time to use them!

Bush is TRYING to run the government like there is only ONE branch of government that matters, his branch, the executive branch. He acts like the ONLY things that matter are the things that matter to HIM, and what the other branches of the government think is unimportant, and that he can do whatever he wants to without repercussions. He just doesn't want the other branches of the government or the American people to know anything. EVERYTHING seems to have to be a secret around him now!

Our government was structured by the Founding Fathers so that it was transparent, that has COMPLETELY disappeared with Bush at the helm now. This was so that the people know what THEIR government is doing.

It's about time Congress finally stands up and sees to it that things are run the way they are suppose to!

What the hell, this doesn't sound like Congress at all. They're actually standing up and upholding the Constitutional checks and balances for quite possibly the first time in eight years if not more. I've got to say, it's about time Congress actually upheld the job description and stood up for the legislative branch.

With Bush falling so far in the polls, maybe Congress will start doing their job and keep Bush from just bulldozing anything he wants to right past them!

Only time will tell, I've got my fingers crossed! (Anything that might help)

C'mon now..do you reallyn think that those weak sister Congressmen will actually hold the criminals feet to the fire? Not a chance. Nancy Pelosi is the head of the political apparatus for the Dems and she gives Bush anything he wants. Why? Here it is: Pelosi wants to run for President someday and will do nothing to anger the right wing cabal that decides what really happens. The sane people do not have enough votes to get anything done.

The Repugs will stand with scum like Pat Roberts and the rest of his ilk who are Bush clones, or worse, if that is even possible. There are many politicians who still believe that they can attract votes from the ignorant Fox news drones who study nothing and know nothing about what is really going on. Most people today could not tell you the name of their representatives, or anything about major current events. They think in brain dead ways, like : Abortion bad..war good..flag good...liberals bad cause Rush says so..

You are facing the reality that a majority of the politicians are cowards and beholden to the same corporate/industrial/military machines that really count when it comes to votes. There are only a half dozen good politicians in the whole scheme up in DC..and that is not enough to get anything done. The Senate will back down..Bush will refuse to obey anything..and the courts will give Bush al he wants. Secrecy will reign and millions of our dollars, trillions, will flow to the corrupt and influential while we have no health care and jobs flee from us at a rate unthinkable a decade ago.

Our only hope? Full scale Senate hearings televised openly with impeachment as the goal. Now. Criminal indictments for all Bush administration people involved, from 9-11 to torture to the worst abuses we have not even heard about yet. The real crimes of the Neocons are hidden in files and stored away somewhere safely, never to be revealed..UNLESS ONE true patriot in their system somewhere has a change of heart and provides the proof we know is there of a massive criminal enterprise going back over 40 years, in the case of Poppa Bush and some of the early gang.

But what are the odds? Beyond hope. No way the nation is going to be torn apart again like Watergate etc., they do not want the people demanding change and riled up. They crave control, and that means not releasing the worst news, under National Security grounds..secrecy: The hallmark of this gang. The Republicans are too dishonest and phony, posing for pictures while chasing evil when no one looks..Party loyalists and not Constitutional loyalists. Thats the problem:

Instead of being loyal to the Constitution, the political machine has people being loyal to THEM!! Repug or Dem or Indy or green or libertarian..unless the Constitution and rule of law and openness is the way it is done, all else will fail. We are doomed, and things are going to get a lot worse before it gets better:

Bush will laugh at us and walk away a rich man, smirking at our helplessness to do anything about it. All of his and Cheneys crimes will be washed away with pardons from each other..the Neocon 9-11 attacks will go unpunsihed despite the obvious proofs that show what happened. It simply will not be discussed!! The media will not allow such things!! Its all over folks..prepare for the worst.

It's a shame, the Founding Fathers set up our government so that each branch could keep the other branches in "check" thru the system of checks & balances, I guess they never forsaw a day when ALL the branches of government would be corrupt or just go along with one persons agenda!

Can bush take the final step and disolve the senate (and congress) and make himself supreme ruler (emperor)? does his puppet masters think they can get away with it?

There is no need to try and disband the senate and congress.that would be impossible and the outrage would insure his removal. They don't do it that way. What they do is to remove the power that the senate and congress has. If they are powerless to stop him from doing whatever he wants, they can keep their jobs and pensions and money from crooked deals..and all is well.

The move to strip the courts, congress and senate of any real power started the moment that Bush took office. His ' signing statements ' mean that no matter what law is passed, he just ignores the parts he doesn't like!! Simple!! With a majority of the politicians too weak or corrupt to do anything about it, he gains more and more power. Torture, spying on Americans with no warrants, reditions(kidnappings),secret prisons , refusing toprovide info to congress on all sorts of issues, secrecy of a level unknown in all history, voter suppreesion, justice dept. politicized...I could go on forever..9-11 is still the biggest story: The Neocon/Israeli job to promote the future according to their designs is staring us in the face, waiting for justice.

Good luck fixing this mess.
