Did anyone see Horizon other night on BBC2 UK about nano technology and grey goo?

that grey go they were talking about i never even heard of it, where nano machines could evolve and destroy human race....

i think possibility for nano tech is huge and good.

Yes, I saw it. I hadn't heard of 'grey goo' either, but there has of course been a fear for a long time that technology (including the nano variety) will one day wipe out the human race. I think it's perfectly possible, and even more so due to our greedy human nature. I don't think scientists will stop devloping new technology til it's too late

However, in the shorter term, I agree that nano-technology is potentially very beneficial to the human race; although the military uses explained in the programme are worryingly efficient. The possibility of being killed where you sit by little robotic assassions that are breathed in and then burst all your blood vessels is a pretty alarming thought.

The ideas in that program where amazing and disturbing. the potential for nano technology is incredible, it's a shame that guy lied about his results. maybe one day a little nano thing will come and cure my diabetes....

Earthtone, why wait for nano to do it? Do it now Don't need pills either! Seek "alternative" methods... energy-related healing. Often one's physical condition is a reflection of one's state of mind. Maybe you just need a change of lifestyle?

Just had a thought.
Say you get infected by nano's that are designed to burst your blood vessels (like fleyane suggested). you could in theory inject your own nanites designed to destroy nanites they don't reconise. You'd have a mini war inside your body.

I agree, i didnt watch the show because i knew it would be a sickening promotion of unnecessary and lethal technology and it disturbs me greatly to see it pushed by a one sided BBC debate saying what wonderful things this technology 'could' be used for. Rescources, finance and focus would be better spent highlighting the source of thousands of dangerous chemicals and heavy metals in our foods and water supplies, or the man-made viruses in contaminated vaccines, or the pollution and radiation in our atmosphere. They should cease development of these quick fixes that always eventually lead to more problems and start looking at the causes of the problems. But of course, then these ideas always originate from military/industrial research and are primarily designed for nefarious purposes. Theres no future or financial benefits in research specialising in real cures and answers.

I agree, science has failed mother Earth. We should learn to work with nature and be with our planet instead of destroying it. I do think about seeking alternative medicine.

and you think the people with the money and power to create these devices and release them would happily create and give you another nano to save you? only at a cost my friend, just like today's pharmecutical industry.

The people running the industries creating these products could put one of these things into anybody they wanted to control. They would have a little nano holding them hostage in their own body, for politicians, workers, #, the whole world.
