The crew—who were in all probability not government officials, I might add—was under the impression that the airport officials had been bribed and were going to clear them for landing, however, they arrived to the area after the bribed officials had left for the day, and they were denied landing clearance at Cancun. They attempted to land at a different airport and were denied clearance there as well, and eventually ran out of fuel while circling the area, presumably attempting to find a place to land.

While that may be the case, this event did take place, and Daily Kos is only mentioning it now, based on other people's research. It was in the mainstream media originally, several months ago—there are photos and evidence of the connections. Thanks for the post Papillion. You may be confusing the payload authorized with NBAA IFR reserves at 72 degrees at sea level.

When your running guns or dope or both you load the cabin until you can just barely shut the door.

Then you light the fires, read the checklist (which is usually, "Sex, Drugs & Rock 'n Roll") and let 'er rip.
