It's cute! I wonder if it's in the process of evolving "gliding ears." Sort of like a dumbo octopus of the desert.

saw it on cnn this morning....he is god damned adorable....

i told my wife i would love to have one of those little guys....i'd build him a HUGE habitat in my basement for him...

those big ass ears and loooong tail....plus the way he hops around like a kangaroo.

this is why i say that we should never stop looking for answers....
a couple days ago, we had no idea that this animal existed. today we do.

we can NEVER stop looking for answers...

Or double parachutes, you know, if it jumps too high!

i have a gas heater in my basement...i am not big on keeping animals like that cause you usually see them in a small cage but i am talking about a friggin habitat.....as in converting the majority of the basement for em....maybe get a pair of them or something...

people keep flying squirrels, lemurs, chinchilas, etc....

Yeah, cages = bad!

And sugar gliders!

But like the jerboa, they're active at night.

Good pets, I suppose, for someone who's already nocturnal...

well, the basement is dark at night......my basement is huge and wide open...

just a pipe dream though...

what i am actually going to do is build a 500 gallon tank down there and keep a pair of snakeheads...

Reminds me of a couple of Australian critters that we get in the Outback.

Dusky Hopping Mouse, this little fella's endangered thanks to foxes, feral cats and humans.

Bilby's which are probably more like the little guy in the OP with their big ears and hopping around. These guy's are also endangered and it has become more fashionable to buy chocolate Easter Bilby's at easter instead of the normal Easter eggs here, with money from the sales going into a fund to try and save them.

Great to see discovery's like this, lets just hope we can save the little blokes from our meddling.

I've always been fascinated with the diversity of life forms on our blue marble and the many unique creatures from down under.

I find it particularly interesting that the Bandicoot's 2nd and 3rd toes are grown together, not unlike, as your linked article indicates, the kangaroo.

Looks like one toe with two claws.

Wonderful!

Gives rise to the question of what dynamic would influence such an odd adaptation.
