a fiend

there was a rapper named fiend who once put out a cd called, "there's one in every family" (classic cd i might add) which provoked me to think about this...

we all know (or should know) what a fiend is. in case you don't, a fiend is someone who's addicted to something. i was doing some thinking earlier and thought to myself...

is there really a fiend in EVERY family?

i mean i see how there could be, but i also see how there couldn't be.

what do you guys think?

We all learn something new everyday.

I never knew that a 'fiend' was someone who was addicted to something.

I always associated the word 'fiend', as being being very 'negative/detrimental/demonic.

Are you asking me if I know someone who is a 'fiend' -addicted to stuff?

well i wasn't exactly asking if anyone knew a fiend personally. i was asking if ppl thought it was possible for every family to have a fiend.

Yes, i think so.

Not every addiction is to drugs or what not, you can have an addiction of almost anything.

TV
Video games
Posting on ATS
driving fast
stealing
drugs
Shopping
Gossiping... and so on

There are so many things, so i say there is a decent chance that every family has a feind in it. THe question is what kind

One exists in my family tree right now. Ashamed to say.

I don't concider this person as 'demonic', but when this person goes looking for $$$$ to supply for 'the booze habit', people cringe, they don't want to be around that person. They avoid that person - like the plague.

I work my arse off for everything that comes by my way. It's when 'the fiend' comes into the picture, I wonder when I give a few bucks out here and there, 'will I ever see those few bucks again'?

I make sure my rent/groceries/cable/internet/transportaion/etc.. costs are paid for; as well as (most importantly) my children!!!!

When the 'fiend' comes around, sometimes I just don't help them out.

I have important priorities that come first before anything else. Lately, I've said "NOOOOO!' to the 'fiend'. Not because it's Christmas time, but because I'm fed up. PERIOD.

Why bother 'giving' to an individual, when they show 'NO PROMISE' of reform?

I'm a strong person...and I deserve a better friendship in return.

Yep, and I am the fiend in this family.
There is something in every family, though it also depends an how large a family group you mean. Y'know, immediate or whatever.

I'm not real sure about this but, can a fiend be someone that closes out the outside to focus on a single obsession?

On the boards you can spot the ATS fiends, can you not?

Are they ignoring their families, jobs, friends to focus on ATS?

To be honest, some of the people on ATS, are more real to me than some of the real people I come in contact with everyday.

I think most people have a little "fiend" in them in one way or another.

Like a poster said above^^^ there are many things to be addicted to and Balance in life is something that many strive for but seldom achieve.

Soooo in response to your question I would say YES at least one in every family.

I know people that are addicted to other people.

Wives addicted to their husbands and vice versa.

Son's to their mama.

Daddy's girl's.

I know people that are addicted to their pets!!!

All they talk about is the objects of their affections.

Are they fiends?

what ever they are...they are a drag to be around.
