MOSCOW-A train leaving the Paveletskaya subway station in Moscow was attacked by a suicide bomber, killing as many as 50 people and injuring another 100. The explosion came at 8:30am local time, at the height of rush hour on a line that would have been packed with commuters.

Ambulances are on the scene triaging the injured, and Moscow hospitals have been put on alert. Witnesses say rescuers have only reached the outer edges of the blast area, as the train is still on fire, and expect the casualty count to rise.

Both the Paveletskya station and the Avtozavodskaya station, the train's next stop, have been closed. Smoke is reported to be billowing from both terminals.

Rescue efforts are being delayed by the intense fire and smoke in the subway tunnel.

Wow, ten minutes after ATSNN picked up the story, and that's all CNN has?

Here's a pretty good synopsis of the Russia/Chechnya issue:

It's a long read, but thorough.

No prob at all.

How are we this quick about news?
We're just that damn good.

Actually, I don't know about any of our other reporters, but I get notified of breaking news when it happens. Takes me a second to get it researched, typed up and posted, so there's usually a minute or two delay while I cross-check and all.

ITV.com is calling this a suicide bombing.
Link

No sources stated, so take with a grain of salt until officials confirm.

Edit to add:
Sky News
They're a reliable source, and calling it a suicide bombing too.

At least 22 people have been killed and 30 injured in a suspected suicide bombing on the Moscow underground, according to reports.

Sky News

Some reports are saying it may have been a female suicide bomber and 100 dead, but I cannot confirm this yet.

cnn (tv) are claiming it is an escolation of long running violence, which has only just started(in the last year or so) encroaching on Moscow.

Witness accounts of the explosion:
CNN

"We saw them carrying bodies and injured covered in blood," said Lena, who works in a food shop 100 meters from the station.
A short time after the blast "a man came into the shop, he was shaking uncontrollably and covered in blood. He said 'give me a vodka,'" she said.
