Not my "favorite", but my wife recently totaled her 1989 Camaro RS in an accident. We've been looking around for a similar car, and just put a deposit on this one last night, and we'll be finalizing everything this weekend.

It's a 1989 Camaro (IROC-Z) with about 62000 original miles on it. Already had it checked out by the mechanic (even talked to his mechanic also), has all the paperwork on it, etc., and we're getting a great deal on it. So, she's kind of getting her car back and then some (plus the convertible aspect, and hers had about 120000 miles on it)...

Personally, I would have rather gone with a newer car, but she had her heart set on it...

I'm a Mopar guy at heart, so my favorite muscle car(and dream car to boot) is a '68 Hemi Charger, and I'll take it in any color. TorqueFlite or 4-speed, doesn't matter.

Personally, my favorite vehicle of all time is a 1969 SS 396 Chevelle, but since I spent the last ten years trying to find an unrestored one for less than 8-10K, I gave up and went with a close second.

My current car and project is an all original numbers matching 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass. It was originally built an hour from me in Lansing MI and shipped to Arizona where it resided for the majority of it's life. It managed to return to Michigan about seven years ago and started to rust just a little bit, but FAR better than Michigan resident cars do.

That being said, I bought it for $1,500 and drove it home, it purrs like new and even the A/C is cold. It runs and drives like a dream even for its age.

It may look a little rough on the outside, but aside from a couple spots around the bottom of the door and rear quarter, the rust on the outside is just surface in these pictures:

I have started doing some body work, but most of the work is under the hood. In the last picture converted the points distributor over to HEI from a 455 I had pulled from my other Olds (1980 Cutlass Calais T-Top--Which I no longer have) and installed a new set of Heddman Headers.

I started building an engine for my T-top but decided to get rid of the car and focus on one instead, so I chose the 71. I have a couple more parts before I can finish the engine assembly, but due to my son being born 3 months ago, I have little money left to finish it, so it sits on the stand in the garage.

I will still continue to try and work on it from time to time, but I expect that it will take several more years to complete it than originally anticipated. In any case, I have my vintage muscle car, if not the one I wanted, a very close comparison and I'm happy with it.

The black cutlass in my pictures had a 455, that is why I bought her, so I could swap it into the 71 and it's also why I built the small block to go into it as a replacement. However once I found out exactly how expensive it was to build a BBO, I decided to stick with the SB to save about half of my budget.

However due to block design I was able to modify the stock heads to fit big block valves and threw in a big block cam and punched out the block 30 over. It's got recessed pistons so that I can put a blower on it, it's just that I can't afford the kit.

It's the last piece I need to finish the motor, but I think it's going to take awhile. Why were you going through clutches so fast? Were you using the 350 or the 400 trans?

My wife just had a son three months ago, and despite being in some pretty hot water financially, keeping the cutlass is the one thing we both agree on, no matter how long it takes to restore. I have plans for it and I can do 99% of the work on it myself, so I can save about 40% on my overall investment, but selling it is out of the question. It took me ten years to find the right car at the right price and at the right time, and I'm not about to let it go for anything.

I've even told my wife I would sleep in it if I had to.

My fave had to be the Charger, after all, i grew up watching Bo and Luke Duke tearing up Hazard County.

If i had to choose one though, i think i'd go for the British 90's Aston Martin Vantage V8......all the luxury of a Rolls and although weighing two tons, it will give a Diablo a run for it's money.
