Teeth Indicate Neanderthals Grew Up More Rapidly Than Humans

The teeth of Neanderthal children grew faster than the teeth of human children today, a new analysis shows, suggesting that a long childhood and slow development are uniquely human traits.

Across all primates, including ourselves and Neanderthals, tooth development, specifically the age of molar eruption, is related to other developmental landmarks, such as weaning and first reproduction.

By studying the growth lines of a Neanderthal childs teeth they determined that the 8year old had the development of a 10-12 year old human. This could also relate to quicker puberty, maturation and life history.

Just think, that probably meant they could kick the little brats out of the nest at 10 rather than wait till they are in their late teens! lol
